Location: west of East Texas | Has anyone done this? This horse is driving herself crazy and is not doing herself any favors making laps around her 12x12 stall. She was kicked on the tip of the hock. Bursa infected, bone damaged, lot of inflamation, roller coaster lameness. She's spent a couple weeks at home, a couple weeks at vet, a couple weeks at home, a couple weeks at vet, came back home last night. By this morning, her stall was so trampled it looked like I had not put any shavings in there at all.
I've tried buddies, toys, calming powder. I'd really like to give her a big 'valium'. She wants out so badly and is even rubbing her hair off ramming the walls. I tried to let her stay in the 12x48 alley and she paced all day there too, even got up a little speed and did rollbacks at each end. She's not a 'hot' horse either. She's generally laid back and not buddy-ish in normal life.

Location: Lost in the swamps | Got some reserpine from my vet. it really helped a horse we took in. he had a lot of anxiety and almost killed himself running the fence line he wanted to be with another horse soo bad but there is an incubation period at my barn . He settled in nicely after the shot. Vet said only thig to watch for a little diarrhea. |

Location: PNW | I just got done with this game... My horse was a complete whack job. He spent his entire stall rest on Reserpine. It is an IM injection once every two-three weeks as your horse needs. WELL worth it. Nothing can heal if they are running around like butt holes. |

Location: west of East Texas | Yes, in several combinations. From just the mini to the mini plus other horses. I've even tried different combinations of horses. The mini is always in the barn because she can't handle eating grass. That's a whole other issue. |

| Ace/Rompin if you are comfortable with IV, or just Ace under the tongue will take the edge off. Tie her up, hobble her. She may be miserable now, but she will thank you when she heals. Sorry, but that's all you can do. :) |

This is what I would suggest, too. You certainly don't want her reinjuring herself or making it worse. It also comes in a powder from your vet, at least my vet (track vet) can get it for me. |

Location: west of East Texas | I''m feeding her a very basic 10/4 pellet, keeping coastal hay in front of her and a small amount of alfalfa. I have upped her quantity of feed, added alfalfa and ulcer meds since the lockup because she has lost SO much weight. She was on pasture 24/7 and I only fed about 1/5 of the recommended feed quantity then because she was a roly poly. I'm still not 'overfeeding' based on the feed label. She broke the snap on her stall door last night, went out the front of the barn, and around the side to stand at the pasture fence. I also gave her Ace yesterday, but obviously not enough. |

Location: Florida.. | Id change to a sr grain if you can.. its easier to digest and on the gut and can add soaked beet pulp as well. the fat percentage shes on wont hold her weight well at all. she will need more Fat..

Location: Kansas | My horse has managed to injure himself in different legs and areas the last 3 years in the Spring resulting in 3-4 months stall rest.
Grain is cut down to a handful morning and night. Grass hay is provided all day. No supplements or vitamins. Another horse is always in the stall next to him. We make a 6 panel pen in the pasture. He goes out in it in the morning until it is grazed down, then back to his stall. We move it and in the afternoon he goes back out until grazed down. In the evenings he is hand grazed for 1/2 to 3/4 hrs plus the grooming time.
This keeps him at a decent weight and not to hyper. He does not look like he is in shape or carrying as much weight as when I compete on him, but he is not skinny
I would cut out all alfalfa

Exactly!
My gelding stayed on Reserpine the whole time he was on stall rest, after his surgeries. It was AMAZING! 
I also agree that you should stop feeding alfalfa.

| I have used reserpine, my friend uses fluphenazine.. Both have risks. Reserpine can make them colicy and even if you order it/ go get it will take a few days to work.. So you could try more Ace until then... but my bowed tendon horse had 2cc ace IV and went out to her paddock 30 minutes later and made a complete circus out there so I feel your pain. my vet also gives pills she calls "horse Prozac" and you put 5-10 in the horse's feed a day if youd rather not use something that has to be injected... But, that too takes a few days to kick in.. Ace may be your best vet until you decide what to use for long term but I feel your pain :( pm me if you want me to get the actual medicine name of those pills |

| also in answer to has anyone done this.. I think a lot of people do it. Vets will even recommend it if the horse is hurting itself by being wound up  you're not alone with this problem! lol |
