Dumb question I know---how do feedlots work? Are they sold after so long or what?

Once they are owned by the kill buyer they are held at the feedlot untill they ship to slaughter. This mare will be on the next truck to Mexico if someone does not save her. The kill buyer owns her now and he doesnt care. He gets paid no matter what. Some kill buyers will work with one liason on behalf of a select few horses which they will let them list to try to get that horse a home. As is the case here.

So she is owned by the kill buyer now right?  How much are they asking for her and baby?

As of right now there is no confirmed buyer. As soon as there is a buyer for this pair to be safe it will be marked "Safe". For those without FB here is the info on her deal.Appearantly according to the comments, her owner died in dec. and family just dumped her not wanting her or knowing anything.

The girl he allows to be liason is in Edmond OK. so I'm guessing she's close to there.? Looking at the pics and video it looks like she is probably still at the auction yard in a pen?  I dont know much more then that. I get the listings ever since we rescued a Twaynas Dash Daughter from the kill pen in Wa. through the kill buyers liason up there and I would rescue this pair in a new york minute if it wasnt so far away. The liason's name is Cie and I also see she owns this store. Maybe someone interested could get a hold of her through the store?   It's  all so heartbreaking.

It was asked on that thread  where she was and if there was a number and this was a responce posted by someone else.   this horse is in Davenport, Oklahoma. The funds can be sent via paypal according to the info. in the original post. She is not sold until marked sold here, and in the event you sent payment for her and someone else had sent also, your payment would be refunded.

=( I hate seeing these. I have a lot of rescues like this on my FB. I see a lot of yearling and mare/foal pairs go through them. They save a lot... but they can't save them all.  So many have great papers, were someones champion, companion and a lot have great papers. Sad to say, papers mean nothing to kill buyers.

I am no expert by any means on these horses by any means and I have never dealt with this girl or KB but I can tell you what I DO know from rescueing  the one we did and long talks with the liason in the N.W..  I guess it depends all on how you look at it. If you look at it by weight, yes, she is expensive. If you look at it for who and what she is, then no, she's cheap. Kill Buyers buy these horses at auction and they have to fill a truck. The average joe like you and me cant be at all these local auction. They buy without regard on who or what they are. They just have to fill a truck. It doesnt matter how old or young or what papers they have or how well broke. The few  K.B. that will allow a liason to list a few horses really view it as a pain in the a$$ and then another horse has to take that horses place on the truck because again, he has to fill the truck. It really is a very ugly business and I hate to say it BUT, in the case of mares w/ foals, if they need to fill a load, they just seperate that mare and foal, run her in the load and leave the foal behind. Many just shoot the foal. Looking at the video, this foal is just a few days old at best. 1 - 3 days old is my guess.

ThreeCorners, please excuse me and my lack of coffee, I have questions...

Do you have to have a Facebook to see when these horses are available?

How often do they sell horses like this via Facebook, or website if there is one?

Is there a 'sale barn' there in Oklahoma this happens at regularly?

How is their price determined?

There is a well known horse sale here, in Texas; at times very nice, papered horses would go through it, but I also saw some not so nice, neglected horses as well. If horses bought there were going to Mexico (I'm willing to bet that number was high) it was either very discrete or 'under the table'.  I'm guessing it's more public in Oklahoma?

Very curious and hope someone can educate me....

It's all once a month sale barns that the kill buyers target. They just dont announce the horse went to a kill buyer.  Last year 140,000 horses went to Mexico direct to slaughter. The USDA has the stats and it is public information. The girl who lists some of the OK. horses you can go to her page where this mare is listed and friend her on facebook and then will get all her listings. She would probably know if there is someone in Texas. The NW girl has "Auction Horses" . https://www.facebook.com/AuctionHorsesWA?fref=ts
Sabrina is her name.  https://www.facebook.com/sabrinasparklepants?fref=ts

I just scrolled through the "Auction Horses" page, I knew it would make me mad, which is why I will not watch the video.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me, because in all my years of life I have yet to understand, how people can drop off such neglected, starved horses and NOT get reported for animal cruelty?! How can people be allowed to make money off of a dying horse AND have no consequences whatsoever.
It makes me sick to think about people who can watch an animal starve and have to fight for its life, only for the same heartless person to get PAID for it!

I would guess theyre trying to profit... the "auction horses" page, those horses go for their meat value. $300-$400 typically. I would go get her if she wasnt so far away.

I do not know. I am trying to make contact to get ducks in a row. She is over 1000 miles away so I have to have a plan prior to paying for her. My husband wants her, but I need to know we have arrangements in place.

So this is what I have learned. The mare is now "Pending" with a home and buyer says they are picking this pair up today. So YAY!    The lesson here is the owner died, so this nice mare and foal found themselves in a terrible situation due to family just dumping her. So please, I see this scenerio all to often when I see the listings. So please make arrangements  now and put it in writing what to do with your animals. Who gets them so they do not end up dumped and in a kill buyers hands.

The other thing I learned, just as a side note, I did call AQHA and explained the situation. They CAN and WILL cross reference the mare to see what stallion report the mare shows up on to facilitate registration of the foal.

These people make a living off the bleeding hearts of others. The slaughter price is at about .30/lb plus what it costs them to ship. It will cost a kill buyer 100-200 to have them on a truck to mexico and then they'll only get $300 for the horse, leaving them with $100 profit IF they got the horses for free. Most have to pay at least 100-200 for a horse. They know they will make more money off the horses if they can find someone to feel sorry for the horse and buy it. So... they tell you, "please help save the horses, will be sent to killers if not sold by tonight" and so on and so on. The ones they can get sold to other people will help them make enough profit to send the rest on the trucks to Mexico..... This "Auction Lot Horses", they get in semi truck loads of horses, sell what they can, for twice as much as they paid for the horse in the first place, and then ship the rest to Mexico and Canada. I'm not against slaughter but I hate it when people take advantage of other people with sob stories and lies!

I didn't realize the market had dropped! The last person I knew sending horses to Mexico was being paid $500-$900 a head from the Mexican buyers!

I think you are right, in February I think the price was 65.00 cwt, I was writing angry! But that's still a small margin of profit after buying and shipping.
