I kind of think you would be doing just as much good by keeping feed in front of your horse. It keeps the acid out of the belly to constantly have food. Maybe just give them a small bit of a flake before you compete. I don't know what the pros do, but I pretty much always have kept free choice feed in front of them and when I am competing I give a bit in a slow feed hay net at the trailer. I don't want them bellied up in hay so they feel miserable running, but I don't want them 4 hrs out from being fed either. Have to find that happy medium that works for your horse.

I buy uguard pellets , they are alfalfa based and the horses love it. I keep hay in front of them until about an hour before I run then feed handful of the uguard pellets when I go to warm up.

That is interesting. How did you hear about them? I would like to know also if anyone has tried them.
Saw them on fb....some rodeo girls and futurity ppl are using and liking them but i kno they are sponsored so you know how that goes
we keep quality alfalfa hay in front of them and take away 1-2hrs before they run. Sometimes some get pellets to much on at the trailer bc hay supply is short.
Each get different ulcer prevents from owners and personal horses are on gastroplex. Big shows they the good stuff ulcer guard. But for lil shows i'm thinking maybe these instead of those oxygen or whatever paste ulcer prevent we have handy in the trailer (don't buy them jus use what product we've won or got free LOL)
I like the idea of these instead of those pre-race ulcer pastes that are basically just horse tums. We have one in right now that is a pain in the booty to dose with any tube so thinking these might be the ticket for him.

Mainer-racer - 2015-04-21 10:57 AM Ok so that means you MUST try it and let all of us know about it!
I shall report back bc my curiosity is probably gonna force me to order them LOL
I was hoping you'd say that! Geez we still have patches of snow and coming into mud season so never know when I'll get my horses in shape! So you can report back in a month - anxious to hear the results!
