| So for the last several days I have been surprised at the effort and persistance that has gone into the thread about the vet and the cat both here and on other social media outlets. One thing we all need to realize is that people come from different backgrounds. Morals are not the same across the board. What is wrong to some is acceptable to others. Much of our personal morals are established by our surroundings, our community, faith, family, and everybody we interact with.
I have sat back and watched you guys hang this girl up to dry for something you have no personal knowlede of or tie to. It is all based on blogs, facebook posts and an occasional vague press release from the local sherrifs department. Not much of it can be truely verified. And yet we have people trying to create a MOB to call in and get her lisence revoked, and ruin her life.
I do not condone what this girl has done, I would not have done it, but I know good people that would have. But regardless she made her choice and the consequences will follow. What I want to know is why people feel it is their responsibility to sit here and regurgitate the information you have seen and heard on social media? This is nothing more than bullying. The law enforcement have been involved, that is their job and purpose. I think it is okay for us all to step back and let things fall where they may.
Lots of people have made bad decisions in their lives...I'm sure each of you have been there. What you probably didn't do was post it on Facebook for all to see and criticize. So why sit and throw stones and this young lady, when you yourself has probably done something equally dispicable in someone elses eyes?
The second thing I notice is the length of this thread. While on Facebook today I saw a post about a young pregnant mother that was being told she would be forced to terminate the life of her unborn child because of a test result that indicated the child might have down syndrome. She felt forced into doing this because under her Obamacare insurance any issues would not be covered. Now I don't know how much of that is fact or not but what concerns me is DOCTORS ARE RECOMENDING THAT A MOTHER KILL HER UNBORN CHILD and nobody really even blinks an eye...but someone shoots a cat...and the entire would of social media is up in arms, and we think the liberal media is bad.
So are we really that detached as a nation that this cat becomes our call for action against a dumb kid and all the rest of the REAL issues that are going to destroy us as real people are just a side show for those that are interested?
I'm not trying to pick a fight...I just wanted to share a different perspective.

I can see your thoughts as she hoists up your boy and mommy takes a picture of the kill of a wild horse.Thoughts?

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | I haven't seen a thread yet on the Unborn Child you mentioned...My guess is most of us here would be giving our thoughts on that issue and take up probably just as many pages in debate/outrage/sympathy.
One KEY difference might be that no one in that scenario sounds as though they WANT to kill the baby for sport. Its the apparent gleeful pride in the killing of the cat by the veterinarian that sets this cat story apart from your run of the mill person shooting a cat and quietly disposing of it. And this is a forum of folks that clearly care for and have compassion for animals. No surprise that this topic got our attention.
This is a forum for discussion...we are discussing. Why is it that some feel the need to concern themselves with whether or not a particular topic warrants the number of pages we use to discuss it? We comment where we have an interest and feel like contributing. It's pretty simple.

I doubt the doctors are recommending the girl abort, but are giving her all her choices, as should a competent doctor should.
If the health care will not cover predisposing issues on a newborn, I hope her community/state are trying to change this for all newborns. |

| I don't have facebook so I had not heard about this. The doctors who are telling her this are going against their hippocratic oath, are they not? I am going to google this and see if I can find anything not on facebook about this. Poor girl, many prayers that she find an other way for her and the baby.

I wonder why this has gone on so long because if it were certain barrel racers, trainers Eric., it surely would have been frozen. I have no answers for the other replies except this is America and we have the right to freedom of speech. I am not saying I agree with what she did, because I do not.
I mi also saw the post on FB about the child. Seems the world is going to hell in a hand basket as my mom used to say. |

Location: Texas | Oh that is sad. My husband's aunt was pregnant and was told that her baby had Trisome 14? or something like that. I don't remember the name well but whatever it was most babies only live minutes or hours after they are born. She was almost pressured into an abortion but someone finally talked some sense into her. Her son is almost 6 now and I guess the doctors were wrong. He is perfecty fine.

I read through some of the responses on her blog as well as social media and news reports. I kind of understand where you are coming from. Some of the things people wrote about her and what they wanted to do to her were down right disgusting. I think there is a large disconnect in our world. I can understand people requesting her license be suspended. I have never taken a cat to the vet but if I did I would question her morals about the treatment of that animal. What I can not understand is the people who are sending death and mutilation threats to her. In what world should a person consider an animal's life has more value than a humans? They are, in my opinion, no better than she. Just to make those kinds of threats is disturbing.

Roxie, You are one of the most kind people I've ever known. You send a nice package to my nephew Lincoln when he was in the hospital. You are loving, sensitive and caring, and compasionate, and because of that I know you take this very serious. The world needs more people like you. |

She would not even have to shoot him; but PURPOSELESSLY harm or kill your animal. The ONE person, by law, who is suppose to do everything in their power to help, treat and save animals.
It's not a back porch rumor that was blown out of proportion. When the state board is involved there is a tad bit of legitimacy. Austin County Sheriffs have also done everything they are suppose to do. They investigated allegations, got statements and turned them over to the District Attorney, now the DA will do their job and determine the punishment of the woman who did not do her job.
As far as the pregnant woman, I do not have Facebook, I also have not heard or seen anything on the news this morning or at lunch. So, I will withhold my thoughts and opinions until I learn the details from a valid source. |

Thank you for the sweet words, but this Vet was really wrong in what she did, dont kill a pet for the fun of it and post it all over for the world to see. Super sad....

I 100% disagree with the threats she and her family have been getting. Some of the comments on other sites seem to be from people just as wacko as this chick is, some scary stuff to say the least.
It is up to the authorities to decide what her fate will be.

It's a shame more people don't have half the kindness, respect, morals and dignity that Roxie has.
Yes, Whiteboy, your correct we do not all have the same upbringing, values and morals, the standard we are held to is the same. The standard this vet was held to was the same as every other vet in the state of Texas. Honestly, this situation is VERY black and white. WRONG IS WRONG. She knowingly chose to be a vet and knowingly killed a domestic cat - with a bow and arrow. |

How do you figure she is being targeted? She posted the photo on FB, she opened herself up to the discussion. It's not just about the cat, that is where you are off base. It's about the moral compass of an individual who took an oath to protect animals. People need to stand up with outrage over this. I'm sorry, but if she loses her license, it is a consequence of her actions. IMO she does deserve to lose her license because what she did flys in the face of her chosen profession and the oath she took to be a member of that profession. Just because she went to school does not mean she is entitled to a career. Like every professional, a career is something you build AFTER YOUR EDUCATION. The fact that she made really bad choices is going to impact her career, as it should. When the hell do you feel that people should be held accountable for their actions? If she is being tried in the court of public opinion, remember it was SHE, HERSELF, that brought the issue to the court by posting it on social media. She just didn't get the result she was looking for. |

Try this one on for size Whiteboy: Here some pitiful misguided practitioner of veterinary medicine has decided to do what she enjoys, namely kill things, so she gets close enough to drive an arrow through the skull of a domestic pet cat, pick it up while it's still writhing, smile, boast about it, and call out for votes to make her "vet of the year". We have the audacity to focus on this when terrorists are beheading people and burning others alive. Shame on us. There are bigger fish to fry.
You are right, Whiteboy. Shame on us for not putting this into some morally relativistic perspective. After all, she's not nearly the monster we see demonstrated by the ISIS monsters. She poses no threat to anyone......right? |

Really? What do you base that on? I see her as a potential psychopath, based on her words and actions. I think she needs serious help. This is not normal behavior that falls under the bell curve. |

I think if she honestly thought it was a feral cat (which I have no idea again what the situation was) then maybe I could find some reasoning for her killing it. I see no reason for her to hold up a cat like a trophy?? It is just dumb. It's a cat for crying out loud, shoot the dang thing and move on if it's a problem.
The second part of this blows my mind. I honestly do not understand how we have moved animals higher up on priority than unborn children. I honestly can say for a large time in my life (high school and college) I never thought of how wrong it was.. My family has always been adamantly prolife but there was a part of me that just didn't even acknowledge this issue in our country. Even typing that makes me cringe but that's so wrong. Maybe b/c I'm just older now and it being a struggle to have children has shifted my mindset. I don't know this story and pointing this out just brings up how weird my mindset was. I would have been all up in arms about this not too awfully long ago but now I just think there are so many more issues we are facing I can't muster the energy to get mad about an adult tom cat getting shot by a bow b/c someone thought it was feral... |

Additionally, IMO, the comments here have not been out of line since several Vet colleges and Vets have posted the same things.....she should lose her license........ |

I think she is an idiot for doing it. No I haven't went through this "phase" but I also have no idea what else went on to decide that 1-the cat was feral 2-causing a problem that it needed to die. Maybe you do..

| There are bigger/other issues out there, it has crossed my mind how the vet clinic and sheriff's office has been bombarded with phone calls and the aggrevation this has caused them and what other business did this take them away from. I wish child abuse would garner this much outrage (not referring to this site). That said, in general, you don't let the "little things" get a free pass- that is what could lead to "big things". I understand the outrage of her actions and her relevant posts about what she did. I don't understand the crazy threats.

| It boiled down to THIS for me: The veterinarian invited each and every ugly comment and hate letter/fb post/email she receives. She deemed herself tough enough to take it when she chose to post her disgusting and oh so proud of herself picture. I do believe she could possibly have some mental issues as what she did was so bizarre. The pregnant girl, I have no knowledge of but the veterinarian brought it all on herself. It's becoming more and more apparent that people, many people, while academically gifted, do not necessarily have common sense and/or morals....most do, but sooooo many lack pure common sense. |

I would have been all up in arms about this not too awfully long ago but now I just think there are so many more issues we are facing I can't muster the energy to get mad about an adult tom cat getting shot by a bow b/c someone thought it was feral... How about the image of her smiling and holding up that cat exclaiming, "I love killing things!" Maybe you are right. We shouldn't worry about people who make this kind of public statement. I think maybe people are looking for drama and overreacting. After all, I'm sure we've all gone through this phase. Carry on... I think she is an idiot for doing it. No I haven't went through this "phase" but I also have no idea what else went on to decide that 1-the cat was feral 2-causing a problem that it needed to die. Maybe you do..
What went on was she was target practicing in the backyard and the cat walked out and she shot it. This is documented in a FB convesation that someone took a screen shot of before she could delete it. The cat was not feral, it has unique markings that match a pet that lives in her area. The cat was tame - how she was able to get a shot through the eyes, it was not a wild cat running from her. He was healthy and loved my someone. Google it, lots of info and pics of her FB postings. |

She took an oath, shes a vet, this was a pet that she took pleasure in killing and showing off, a vet that took an oath and killed this pet and no telling how many others, this is not right. |

If she had killed a dog with a bow, yes, I would still think she was crazy and needs punishment. If she was standing beside a deer she had killed with a bow, I would see nothing wrong, since it is LEGAL to hunt deer, with a bow.

as for the doctor telling them to get abortion????? unless you are in that situation then let me assure it does happen!!! 20 yrs ago exact same thing happened to my husband and i .. blood test showed our baby would have ds. our doctor called us in. he said i have already made you an appointment for the abortion. you two are too young to start your lives with this problem. lets get it done and you can start again. Needless to say that was not an option we kept our child and no he does not have down syndrome!!! gonna turn 20 this summer graduating top of his class in welding school.
our society has lost balance. we have murderers of HUMANS who get less harrassment than this girl. I am not condoning what she has done in any way. my animal i would have beat the **** out of her and then i would be the one in jail. but we need to quit with the political correct bull$hit and start focusing on the importance of building morals in our children. Starting with this country was founded on CHRISTIAN beliefs. not muslim. if you do not like that then please relocate to another part of the world and take the cat killing soon to not be a licensed vet with you so we can get back to more important things! |

I'm 99% sure I know the person Whiteboy was referring to with the statement about the baby. It's not an article, it was a post made by an individual, to her friends and family, based on what she believed she had been told by her doctor. I don't believe she is a member here. Regardless, as I said, it's not an article, it was a post about a potentially very private, personal decision her family might have had to face. It's not a topic of debate about her specifically. As to the facts about the ACA and Downs Syndrome babies, I have no point of reference, but please do not bring the person's personal post and decisions in to this argument that may be brewing. |

my gpa spent some time there... yes he ate cat knowing it was...... he said you know they put enough on it that you really do not even taste the meat....
i am also not interested in eating horse.... but some do.... well for that matter i cannot stand to eat deer anymore either!
i am getting finicky with age!!

| For the record Ive never killed a cat and my favorite pet of all time was a cat, she was a legend around these parts. Her name would make a kick butt name for a mare but I dont think a horse could live up to the expectations I would have for it. |

and please as far as animal lovers. nobody can say they love animals anymore than i ...... i get very minimal sleep thru calving season. you do not know the sacfrices i make for the livestock and pets that i am responsible for.

So for the last several days I have been surprised at the effort and persistance that has gone into the thread about the vet and the cat both here and on other social media outlets. One thing we all need to realize is that people come from different backgrounds. Morals are not the same across the board. What is wrong to some is acceptable to others. Much of our personal morals are established by our surroundings, our community, faith, family, and everybody we interact with.
I have sat back and watched you guys hang this girl up to dry for something you have no personal knowlede of or tie to. It is all based on blogs, facebook posts and an occasional vague press release from the local sherrifs department. Not much of it can be truely verified. And yet we have people trying to create a MOB to call in and get her lisence revoked, and ruin her life.
I do not condone what this girl has done, I would not have done it, but I know good people that would have. But regardless she made her choice and the consequences will follow. What I want to know is why people feel it is their responsibility to sit here and regurgitate the information you have seen and heard on social media? This is nothing more than bullying. The law enforcement have been involved, that is their job and purpose. I think it is okay for us all to step back and let things fall where they may.
Lots of people have made bad decisions in their lives...I'm sure each of you have been there. What you probably didn't do was post it on Facebook for all to see and criticize. So why sit and throw stones and this young lady, when you yourself has probably done something equally dispicable in someone elses eyes?
The second thing I notice is the length of this thread. While on Facebook today I saw a post about a young pregnant mother that was being told she would be forced to terminate the life of her unborn child because of a test result that indicated the child might have down syndrome. She felt forced into doing this because under her Obamacare insurance any issues would not be covered. Now I don't know how much of that is fact or not but what concerns me is DOCTORS ARE RECOMENDING THAT A MOTHER KILL HER UNBORN CHILD and nobody really even blinks an eye...but someone shoots a cat...and the entire would of social media is up in arms, and we think the liberal media is bad.
So are we really that detached as a nation that this cat becomes our call for action against a dumb kid and all the rest of the REAL issues that are going to destroy us as real people are just a side show for those that are interested?

I doubt the doctors are recommending the girl abort, but are giving her all her choices, as should a competent doctor should.
If the health care will not cover predisposing issues on a newborn, I hope her community/state are trying to change this for all newborns.
I disagree that they don't recommend abortion. They were pressuring my husband and I to abort because a blood test showed positive for cystic fibrosis. .they were really pushing it. And it was a false positive..she's 100% healthy. This happens all the time. |

I think there's something about the actual act of holding it up and being proud of it and posting on FB that speaks volumes for how she was raised to be so insensitive, so I would guess since mom took the picture (condoning the act in itself)....that her parents contributed in a huge way to her actions and the need to show the world...either she witnessed a lot of killing of animals and became de-sensitized to it, or she really is a sociopath with tendancies to enjoy killing things that she has complete control over...a true sociopath will show no remorse after killing, so I'd like to know if she apologized to the cat owners. |

I will be making huge cutbacks everywhere else to find this. If I can manage that, I think ways could be found to have this child. Perhaps they are unsure if they can handle the other issues that come along in this situation.

Have owners of the cat ever come forward? There have been several who claim it matched a lost cat but none claimed to the owner.

I saw the blog... Personally I saw her talking about "killing things" as a tongue in cheek reference to hunting, especially since she elaborated to say animals, drinks, and hangovers. Keep in mind she was in college when she wrote that... I saw it as college style humor.
As as far as the claim of her being "premeditated", she took a shot while target practicing.... So no really. More like a hillbilly hunter move IMO. Irresponsible and an ahole, but psychopath not so much. Jmo.
I think that she's a moron that made some stupid decisions. Many young people try to show off over fb and sometimes it bites them in the butt.
Some me of the responses on her blog are pretty disgusting. The girl killed what her stupid butt thought was a feral... She's not Hitler. It's a wonder she graduated with such an immature view of her profession. I quit going on in school but peers who I went through biology and chemistry classes with have garduated from vet school. I helped them make it through biochemistry and organic chem....I love them to death but they had to remediate numerous classes over the summer and I'm sorry I just don't deem thme smart enough to be trustworthy taking care of my animals when it comes to anything other than vaccines or writing a health paper. They push vet students through at some schools and if they don't pass they remediate or pay to take it again and again until they can pass and graduate. Remember not all vets are top of their class, the ones taking care of your critters might be those C sometimes D students that passed their boards by the skin of their teeth. |

Pretty much how I see it but I don't consider it a mistake. I don't think she gave any thought to if it was feral, she saw a cat and wanted to see if she could hit it and took the shot. It was a pet that was not running in fear as a feral cat would do, she shot it through the eyes- not an ethical shot for bow hunters, no thought process of confirming if it needed to be put down, no thought process of being sure it was a clean kill and those actions or lack of them may speak volmes about her.

That would be a job that she could get alot out of, just think of all the pleasure she can feel while killing things at a slaughterhouse. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | She could also find work as an executioner in Texas quite rewarding, particularly if she is a sociopath. That way she can kill people legally, and satisfy her expressed desire to kill things. I would imagine she might find lethal injections a thrilling procedure. |
