I'm working with a paint Merridoc gelding. He's 5, and has had maybe 30 rides on him. We are starting to perfect his basics so we can start him on the barrels. He's been pretty sassy so far- he only lopes quietly to the right. To the left, he will duck out randomly and basically try to run away. Bunny hops are not uncommon, and his stamina is unreal. What are your experiences with Merridoc horses? This is my first.

We owned an own son that we stood for many years. He was a great horse at home but would get very hot at the track.
We owned 2 of his daughters, one we mainly used as a broodmare and the other I bought as a started barrel horse. The broodmare was as laid back as could be ( I rode her a few times) and gave us some nice babies.
The other mare acted a lot like her dad. She could flat out fly but was full of energy. I could not warm her up anywhere near the arena and had to hand walk her up. She was a bit flighty but started to out grow it the older she got. An old boyfriend of mine roped on her and I think she would have made a great rope horse. Her style did not fit me so I sold her but wish I would have kept her for my sister.
I think with any horse they can all be different and I am sure the was the mares acted had a lot to do with their bottom side as well.
Merridoc is a breeding I would for sure have more of.
Thanks guys. He gets hot easily, even transitioning from a jog to a lope and back down again. I think I've got my work cut out for me. Any other experiences would be greatly appreciated.
