| I am at the cross roads with my mare as we are now facing the madain mare age threshold however she is still a top performaning barrel horse. Flushing is not an option as its not in the budget to go down that road, however I am looking for other's peoples experiences that they have had with bring mares back to competition after they have their foals. Do they perform the same again? What has everyones experiences been like? I know thats its probably a case by case situation but what have you noticed? |

Location: Gainesville, TX | They had a mare running at the NFR that had purposefully been bred to 'quiet her down.' Didn't work but obviously didn't upset her performance ability too much either since she was running at the NFR competitively. |

Location: Washington. (The DRY side.) | What do you mean "maiden mare age threshold" How old is she? There are plenty of young (say under 8) mares that won't get in foal PERIOD, and they are also 20yo MAIDEN mares that DO get in foal after only being bred for ONE cycle.

| She's 13 this year and I know its a case by case scenario on the madien mare situation but like women in general the longer you wait the hard it gets. |

Location: Texas | I bred my maiden at 12 to give her a year off. foaled at 13, was back to competing on her in September.. she's come back stronger than she did before her time off. There are risks, but it was totally worth it. I want to ET her next year |

Location: WI | I bred my mare at 14 years old, she foaled in May at 15 years old, and I brought her back to run in September. Thankfully, I had no problems through it all, except that she did have a hard time foaling and we had to pull the baby out. She came back running just as good, if not better than before. I don't think I will be breeding her again though. With how much money it cost to breed, wait a year for running her, and the risk of something happening to her, I will look into ET from now on. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | But if you cannot afford to flush her she would probably like a year off. I had a 9 yr old I bred and she came back stronger than ever after a year off. |
