| I am thinking of making the switch from doing monthly legend shots to adequan shots instead. How often does everyone give them? I am waiting for my vet to get back to me.
One person I know gives it once a week
another gives it every two weeks and I have heard of being done monthly.
others have does just the 7 series shots twice a year.
This is strictly for prevention because both of mine have x-rayed clean. |

Location: North Dakota | FLITASTIC - 2015-04-30 1:34 PM Full load dose 2x a year. THat is what the research is showing is most effective. I know this was discussed in the other post that I can't seem to find, but WHO conducted the research?
I remember people saying the asked the rep for Adequan and that's what they recommend, but I guess I personally am just always critical of who funded the study and who conducted it. I believe it is Luitpold Animal Health who owns Adequan? It would make sense that they would recommend 2 loading doses a year, which would be selling 14 individual bottles of it to a customer year, rather than only 12 if you are giving it monthly. They'll make more money with 2 loading doses a year.
So playing a bit of devil's advocate on that one. Does anyone have a direct link to the study that was conducted, that showed 2 loading doses a year is better than monthly? I like to read the study for myself, not just the abstract or conclusion, because you can make that sound "the way you want it".
Makes me think of Professional Choice sport boots that boast "absorb an average of 26% of energy and up to 45% of energy from hoof impact". I got them to send me a copy of the study. It was an extremely small sample size and only ONE of the samples in the entire study had a 45% results. Some even had as low as 6% results. Yet of course, they choose to "advertise" the higher value that was obtained, and make an "average" of 46% and 6% to yield the number fo 26%. This is exactly why I am leery of "results" of studies without seeing the entire study for my own eyes.

Location: Central Texas | I am going to go out on a limb here and say I spoke with someone from the makers of Adequan. They stated the most effective use of the product is the loading dose protocol approximately every 6 months. The loading dose enfuses the joint so that healing/reduction of inflamation can be enhanced. I specifically asked about any information/research that would show if in between shots would be of any benefit. He stated that they could possibly be but only for a limited time, like giving the shot before a weekend race, after that, unless you were giving Adequan weekly it doesn't really stay in the system full time. Not sure if I made any sense but I thought I would give it a try.
Here's a number to Luitpold Animal Health 1-800-974-9247 for copies of clinical studies.
