| I own an incredible mare that is super confident out on the trails even my hubby rides her. Last 2 rides she was spooking and jumping over stupid little things she sees everyday. Im not sure what could be going on? Could it be ulcers?

| Eyes were just checked in Dec. She just started acting spooky in the last 3 days. Feed is the same, nothing has changed...thats why im scratchin . My head? If it was EPM would it just show up all of a sudden? |

Yes. That's one of the first symptoms. I would have her tested....and don't let the vets put you off....they tend to do that. They don't want to deal with EPM. Location: MN | My hubby's mare was a steady no spook, went trail riding one day and she was spooking at things that should've not bothered her. The next day her left eye was completely clouded over. Vet said it was a form of moon blindness, don't know how to spell the correct terminology. She had a couple of weeks off while we treated the eye,then kept on riding her. This happened a few years ago and her is completely blind in that eye now. For three years we kept a face mask on her 24/7. |

| She has no signs of EPM . Not at all so i dont believe it couldbe that. she is turned out at night. Im hoping since she had a wellness exam a few months ago she should be fine as far as her eyes go. We ran at a show this weekend and she was phenomenal so definitely no lameness or uncordination from epm. |

| A lot can happen in the few months since her wellness vet appointment. I'd still have her eyes checked. My once brave horse is not at all anymore since losing most of his sight in one eye. |

He was ducking left barrels, or shying away from them or just setting up and darting around like he couldn't tell where the barrel was. Had his eyes checked by a specialist and they were healthy. He got better late summer, then got bad again in the fall and was having issues finding barrels in outdoor pens...and we finally figured out it was his gutteral pouch. It was instant relief. Now, I just have to try to make sure he stays cleared out and we don't know if he will need occasional flushing, if the acupressure points will work, or if he will stay cleared out on his own (I doubt it because he has some allergies). |

Thanks for sharing! Although my horse lost sight in his right eye, I think I will have his gutteral pouch checked out since he is also exhibiting slight allergy symptoms.  |

I agree. My mare have ZERO EPM symptoms other than her sudden spookiness. I told my vet I wanted to test with Pathogenes in FL and he was hesitant, but agreed. She did test positive and was treated. She is not nearly as spooky but will sometimes have a "slight" episode but nothing full spook like she previously did. The tests are SUPER cheap from www.pathogenes.com. It's worth a look. |

| My vet was out today checked her neuro and was 100% fine, eyes are 100% fine also. Did acupuncture to test for ulcers and she was good. My vet said she has seen a lot of horses who come down with lyme disease get spooky. Could very well be possible i live beside the woods and a creek, literally tick heaven!
So we took a blood sample and i will find out in a few days. |

| Also i forgot to add, we ran Friday night and with rider mistakes we were in top 2D at a competitive show so i really dont believeit could be EPM. I did the aacupuncture from the video posted and she reacted to everything correctl. |

My mare ran in the 2D at a very large show when she had EPM. |

| Tested positive for Lyme disease, vet was right on. She starts antibiotics tomorrow. Has anyone else had a horse that had lyme disease? |

| My mare has lymes disease, I actually have two with it. The one is a retired barrel horse and basically she was just lethargic, off her feed, fever, etc. My current barrel horse started to show signs of lameness off and on in random legs. She was extremely spooky, constantly setting back, and would flinch when you touched her, brushed her, saddled her, etc. She became almost impossible to handle. I was just getting her back in shape at the time and boarding her at an indoor in town so I chalked it up to nerves and being fresh for a while. However when the lameness worsened and she started to act like her whole body hurt thats when the vet came out. She tested very hot for lymes and within a week of being on the antibiotics she was starting to go back to her normal self. She did require injections after that ordeal from major joint soreness, however I have found a wonderful joint supplement that has both my previously injected mares running without them! All 4 of my horses have had some form of tick disease, I've been through it all lol. |
