The filly my mare had last year is a pretty unique color and when I sent her reg app in AQHA said they couldn't tell what color she was and would with hold papers till she shed out and I sent new pictures. She is only about half way or maybe less shed out yet but I can clearly see we are not getting any diffinitive answers with this shed either. I have heard AQHA will accept color results from UC Davis and would just like to test to be sure instead of playing the guessing game especially as she changes so much continually! But I am not sure if there's anything special I need to do for AQHA to accept the results as proof for this particular horse or how that works?

I will post a link to an album on her sires fb page that shows birth through about a month or so ago need to get current ones but yearlings mid shed that have been on pasture all winter are sight lol! At first I though black/smokey black stud owner said grulla (sire is sooty buckskin dam is sorrel so not possible..) then we thought maybe really dark buckskin and now I don't even know!

I didn't have to do it for registration but we just did a color test on a mare. She is registered a blue roan but her markings have bay roan characteristics so we did a color test just like you would a DNA test which proved she is a bay roan. I can now send them to aqha to get registration corrected. Once you get results you should be able to give them to aqha for registration.

Well that's what I am wondering because I know if they are registered their name goes on the paperwork and AQHA knows it matches up to that horse but in this case where they didn't yet register her I am not sure if I just send the results and they know it's her and it's all good to go or what?

She looks like a smoky black or black to me. She may also be a brown (very dark bay). Both are possible. But yes color test with UC Davis and have a copy of the results sent to AQHA. Make sure you test for Red, Agouti, and cream.

That was my thought too but the last pictures posted everyone was saying liver chestnut! I put black as the color on her app and they said it was a color " not normally considered possible" with her parents colors lol I say Eeaa is perfectly possible from an ee?? Dam and a EeA? Sire!

UC Davis is the only lab that AQHA will recognize. Just color tested my Blue Roan filly for breeding purposes. I ordered the kit through AQHA and Davis mailed the results to AQHA who in turn sent me a copy of the results.

She's interesting, I would say a smokey black, personally. That is a perfectly possible color if both her parents carry a small a.

Ok thanks! I didn't know you could order the test through AQHA!

AQHA members are suppose to get discounts but I was also having her 5 panel tested also (already required for Studs but rumor has it mares are next just to register the foals). As far as color testing I had the Red/Blk, agouti, and roan done. Came back - EE/aa/RNrn - so now I know in order to get a guaranteed blue roan foal (since she only has one roan gene) my Stud of choice is going to have to be Hz Blk and Hz Roan. I'm really starting to like this genetics stuff!
