Can anyone recommend some good tack shops to put a saddle on consignment? I have a custom saddle I had on consignment at a tack shop in TX, it was there 3 months with no interest, they even had it listed on eBay, 12 watchers but no takers. The seat size is 15 1/2" and they felt it was the reason for no interest otherwise they said it was a beautiful popular brand saddle. I'm looking for other places I can possible send it. I don't want to deal with selling it myself; mostly because of all the horror stories of private sells gone bad. Trying to sell local would be a complete waste of time, people around here want top quality for thrift shop prices.

If you have it priced right, someone will snatch it up fast since its a 15.5" seat. They are harder to come by. I speak from experience. I'd suggest the facebook groups for selling barrel racing tack. The seat size is not necessarily a detriment, as it is a selling feature. More people shop/look online than they do in physical stores.

Lisa New (New To You) in Oklahoma consigns quite a few... she always has a large variety.  She hauls to races and sets up and has FB page and advertises on here.

It's a custom Cactus saddle. I don't want the stress and hassle with selling it myself, I'm happy to pay a commission to let someone else deal with that.

I didn't realize a fully tooled saddle is a detriment? I contacted Lisa and she felt it wasn't selling because of all the tooling. I had no idea people would think it as being too slick; I guess because I've always ridden either tooled or smooth leather.

I love fully tooled saddles. I don't think you have found the right market. Keep trying.

Possibly. Until I bought my first fully tooled saddle, I was afraid of it. I had always had roughout fenders and jockeys previously. It will sell though. It will just take much longer if you'd prefer not to use the online options. There used to be local horse magazines where you could list tack for sale, but nobody really does that much anymore. It's a toughy!

Teskey's does not consign but they give you a few different prices: One for a cash only option and one for an in store credit option and sometimes that is different than a saddle trade option.

Wow, I have always thought of fully tooled saddles as luxury items.  I would think they would have a a better resale just because they would clean up nicer!  Glad you gave Lisa a call.

Unfortunately Lisa wants me to try listing it here before sending it to her. I guess she didn't understand that I didn't want to go thru the stress of trying to sell it myself. Firstly, I can't get pictures to post on anything dealing with the internet, secondly I just don't want to risk ending up with a buyer who either takes the saddle and runs, uses it extensively then returns it etc.; there have been plenty of those stories using some of the Facebook sites. The saddle is in new condition, I'd like it to stay that way for the person that does buy it. My thinking is that consigning it, people can opt to use credit cards, the risk is on the tack shop for lose etc. (they have a much better chance of recovery of funds as a business then I do, at least, that's my thinking), they can offer a trial, I'm not willing to. Saddle selling for me is stressful, I'd like to eliminate that if possible.

I would just be sure and use PayPal (it suggests letting the money clear before you ship) and state that you are firm on your price, no returns, etc.  Saddle selling is a pain (atleast it was for me), so I understand why you don't want to do it.  I had so much response from it being on FB and CL, but mostly people who just wanted to trade it for their saddle (which I wasn't interested in) or for some unbroke horses.  I finally sold it and I'm pretty sure it was from being advertised on here.

I know that it's not much help, but I would be more than willing to help you with uploading pictures if you wanted to try posting it on here!

I have sold a couple of saddles thru HorseSaddleShop.com, they were saddles I couldn't sell here but they sold for more thru HSS.  Just keep in mind the commission is about 25% so price accordingly, they are legit though, I have always recieved my money.

Call D&D they will pay usually top dollar and then charge an arm and a leg to the store customers. I know people who make extra cash by getting deals on Facebook and reselling to the store. Just call and see if they would be interested.

Who is D&D? Do they have a website?

I'm not in Texas if some of you were thinking that, more like the deep South of AL.
