Location: North of the 49th Parallel | The Calgary choice is really odd..... They've never held a barrel race in that venue before and there is a pretty good pen 2 hours north in Ponoka that holds lots of large barrel races and qualifiers "close" in Pasco and Billings/Silesia.

| I had a blast at the one in Glenrose. It was quite a barrel race to watch, 200 plus entries and every one of them running all out. |

There is an issue with the calf roping on whether they planned out letting the qualifer win to split the money or not. It has been said people at the American witnessed a few of the final calf ropers discussing this. I have not heard if this has been settled or not yet. |

I wouldn't consider it a great turnout. Considering that Glen Rose had over 200 at both qualifiers, I think its maybe an attempt to cater to where the numbers are? Hopefully they'll get more entries this year. |

Could be, but they kept Pasco in there, which last year had 55 entries. And dropped Lincoln, NE which I think had over 100 entered.
The 4 locations dropped from last year are Verndale MN, Lincoln NE, Jacksonville FL, and Buckeye AZ.
They added Oklahoma City, Reno NV, Calgary, and Fletcher NC. |

That's what I think as well. With all the rest of the qualifiers having well over 100 and most in the 200 range 60 some entries is small in the grand scheme of things.
I wonder if Reno in june will be run inside or outside? |

| Keep in mind I only 'heard' this. But supposedly they wanted all qualifiers to have at least $10,000 in added money for the barrel race it was being held along with. The PacWest in Buckeye does not add that much so maybe that is why they dropped it? Buckeye also did not draw as many as the previous year. I don't think they had over 100 entries. The Reno qualifier will be held in the indoor pen. The rodeo is going on in the outdoor at that time. There was also LOTS of discussion and controversy regarding the ground conditions/timer/barrel stakes, etc. |

| Why are people being so negative about these events? I think Robin has really been trying and doing a good job with this.....its been kindly thrown together so there have been kinks but overall for the amount of competitors, money, and producers (numerous ones) involved she's done a dang good job! |

^^^ I sooo agree with you!
It's a tough tough job and it will take a little bit to work the kinks out. I still think it's the best thing to happen to barrel racing ever (and rodeo in general). |

I agree this is one of the coolest things to happen to Barrel Racing! She has done a great job and it is only going to get better and better. Maybe in the future as it continues to grow us Northerners will see more up this way. |

They moved the one to Canada to help the Northerns get qualified. They also moved them around large WPRA rodeos as well to making the haul and scheduling easy for some of the girls to get into qualifiers.
This is a very exciting event and I hope it keeps going. I wish wayyyyy back in the day the barrel racers would have left Wes Scott alone will the slot races, we'd be running for half a million now if they had not just a lil over 100k if everyone had not jumped in front of him and ruined the slot race game. But it is what it is. I hope everyone continues to support and help improve the purses in our industry! Maybe one day we will get it figured out like the other quarter horse industries have LOL |

The way they ran the BBR qualifier was a crock.
Three different nights is no bueno.
It was clearly listed on the entry so no one has a right to ***** about it, but it shouldn't have been done that way.

Huh?
Why can't you run a qualifier in 3 sections? I was there and watched 2 of them...thought it was very well done.
You do know that the semi-qualifiers are put in 3 different performances over 3 days, right? As long as it's listed on the entry, the contestants very clearly understand the rules....why the whining now? |

Who said it cant be ran in 3 sections? Hell, you could run 5 horses a night if you wanted...
The semis is what everyone complained about, it appeared the ground was very different from night to night.
arion said "no one has a right to ***** about it" as did you...
So basically why the quote? I dont get it? |
