My husband had his surgery on Monday.  The pain med  (I guess) have turned him into a loony tune. Please pray for me and for him that I don't kill him.  He called 911 on the nurse when I tried to go home last night.  Needless to say they called me to come back to hospital.  Yikes!

If he's on a blood thinner, make sure they monitor it. They almost killed my husband when he had his last year. He was in ICU for 19 days on a ventilator after they let his blood pressure get down to 50/30 in a rehab center.

I would ask his doctor ASAP about using a different pain med AND getting him off of them ASAP and on to something else less potent. My husband has had both knees replaced in the past several years. I am happy to say he was only on the prescribed pain meds a couple of days then weaned himself down to taking one 30 minutes prior to his physical therapy. So he was off the Rx meds by the time we left the hospital -- did take one for the two-drive home. But he has a very high pain tolerance and recovered quickly from both surgeries -- he worked really hard in PT. But I believe his doctor needs to know how severely he is reacting to those pain meds -- there are various options and there should be one that works to give him relief, but will not make him act this way.

I didn't get mine replaced and I've had 3 doctors tell me I need it replaced. I had an unsuccessful meniscus tear. SG had hers replaced and my sister had both of her knees replaced.

I feel for your husband as meds and I don't do well together and is the reason I have opted out of having my knee done until I can't move.. Prayers for him.

Switched from  hydrocarbon to tramadol. No difference. Sodium level slightly low. It's what I imagine a lsd trip would be like.  Kind of funny at first but no humor left.

I get my knee injected at Osteo Pain Relief Institute and the injections work awesome. I'm over due and need to get back in there.

He is better today but still seeing things not there but not agitated like before.  Close to being manageable at home. I think that I got a glimpse of dealing with an alzheimer patient.  Really scarey.

I have had my knee replaced twice never took one pain medication had both hips replaced at same time again no pain meds. I hate them. I had some periods of being uncomfortable but never unbearable pain. Some times you just gotta suck it up!

They moved him to a rehab facility yesterday late.  Acted Coocoo again last night.  Very frustrated.  Thought our son was outside with his tractor and had it stuck.  He slept pretty good last night and only got up 3 times.  Almost normal today. Hoping this is almost over.

Everything is going great.  Such a relief.  His surgery was on a Monday and he again acting crazy on Tuesday.  On Thursday, they wanted him out of the surgery center but although better he was not normal.  On Friday they moved him to a skilled nursing facility (fancy name for nursing home) but they did have a separate wing for regular people who needed physical therapy.  By Sunday he was back to normal and he came home on Monday.  We decided against all pain killers except Tylenol and he got better.  P.T. is going great.  He has 114% bend in his knee this week and is walking great.  Our goal was for him to be able to go to Texas HSRA state finals in Abilene on June 7th and it looks like he is right on schedule.  I am glad because I would have just hated leaving him at home with my mother that week. lol He thinks that I am a slave driver, but he will appreciate it later. (I hope)

Glad to hear that he's on the road to healing, sounds like you are doing a good job with the care he needed, sometimes we need to be a slave driver

That's great news!

It is crucial he does his PT. My neighbor didn't and he can't bend his knee much and is in pain. My sister did all of her PT for 2 knees and she's doing great and is back riding and is back barrel racing.

He is tired of my saying 'is that as much as you can bend that' or 'if that is not hurting then you are not bending that enough'.  It is a good thing that we have been married a long time or he might be looking for another 'physical therapist'. Are there any numbers on the cause of divorce being knee replacement surgery?

My husband pushed and helped me when I had a meniscus tear repair but it ended up a cluster because the doctor scraped the bone because of osteo arthritis and in the end made it flare up as I didn't have pain from arthritis before I tore my meniscus and then told me I needed a full knee replacement 3 months later when the pain returned..
