MY horse fractured her coffin bone with a wing fractured that ended up moving up and ended up touching her joint in a barrel racing accident almost two years ago and I got to start riding her again close to 9 months ago. I went to the vet today and they said I could possibly start competing on her again if I kept shoes on her. Has anyone had a coffin bone fracture in their horse that ended up healing and going back to completely normal? Hopping there some type of hope.

We had a gelding who would kick the trailer, fractured his back left one. 2 years of pasture rest later we sold him to a little girl as a youth rodeo horse. He was doing fine.

I had a mare that stepped on something and fractured her coffin bone. A piece chipped off about the size of your thumb nail. She was on stall rest I believe for about 6 months and wore a special shoe during that time. I think it was called an egg bar but I'm definitely not an expert on that. It basically was a whole circle instead of a horse shoe shape. But she came back 100% and never had an issue with it. And she was 17 y.o. When it happened.
