Okay maybe its cause its really hot out and I am grumpy, but how come when people ask for advice on their horses/animals/situation, when people give them SOUND, good advice or tips, they blow it off and completely disagree with them? If you are asking for advice, maybe take it and try it!!!!! I know its an online board but there are A LOT of very knowledgeable people here who genuinely care about these animals!!!

It's usually because they want someone to tell them what they want to hear or what they already know. If anyone goes against that they blow it off.

When I ask for advice I take the good with the bad. I obviously know I am doing something wrong or need something verified thus that is why I am asking advice. EX how does this dress look? If you tell me it looks great when I really look like a cow wearing a dress you have, 1 lied to me and 2 completely ruined why I need advice.
I don't see why people only want the good when they ask advice. More often then not I want the bad so I can fix what ever is wrong. People have gone soft!

Why do you get bunched up panties if someone doesnt jump when you SUGGEST something?

Give advice if they take it they take it, if not who cares?

When you stop and think about it.... They are asking because they don't know.... So they will not recognize good advice when they hear it... so they sluff it off..

I cant believe how hardheaded and stubborn some of you are.

Is it possible youre not the best at everything and just maybe your suggestion isnt whats best for this particular horse?

You can be right, but there are many people with expertise on this forum.

If multiple people are saying the same thing, then there is more of a chance then not it may be better for the horse.

Examples are

Soreness issues a lot of people believe their horse is sound, when in fact it is showing signs of pain via behaviour or video. I am paranoid about my horses, I have had my fair share of bone injuries, and my vet is on speed dial and answers my questions on what to look for especially the subtlilties.

Ulcers, majority of barrel racers have had to deal with ulcers, and are familiar with the symptoms

Tack, everyone has different experiences, and a different knowledge base, I love the discussions, everyone can still learn something, even if the philosophy is different from yours.

Horsemanship, everyone can learn something even if you don't like the technique, as there will come a time when our own methods will not work and we need to dig deep into our knowledge base to figure out a horse. Also there are different skill levels of people on this forum.

All of that is true, but on the other hand, you also see a lot of people just jumping on people.

Agree.

We have had ongoing problems with our gelding and a lady suggested us to try a tiedown and some kind of draw gag. My daughter is at her wits end with this horse and was going to give it a try until I pointed out the lady could barley get her horse in the arena and couldnt make a clean run on him, then I reminded her about a great trainer and rider with easy going 1D everywhere type horses that told us NOT to use a tiedown on our gelding. My daughter ended up making the right decision.

Opinions/advise are a bit like a derriere....everyone's got one and some are better than others.

However, I find folks advise helpful. Most of us on here probably have a good bit of experience, sometimes other's advise or suggestions are things we might have already done. I think it's always good to either confirm you're going down the right path, or get some feedback where you go....ummm, hadn't thought of that.

I've had horses for longer than most people on this board have been alive, and it seems like the more I learn, the dumber I get. All the technology and medications available for our performance horses today, it seems like there's always something new.

I appreciate everyone's input, so please keep all the thoughts and advise coming.

I feel if I give advice and the OP thinks it's stupid...It doesn't matter as someone else that is just reading it might have found an answer they were looking for but didn't want to ask.

I don’t really mind those who don’t “take” the advice because each horse is different and they ARE just “suggestions”……I DO MIND the ones who ask for advice and then contradict or argue with every suggestion thrown out there for them to try…….If you are not willing “accept” suggestions….then DON’T ask……

I agree. Or maybe the poster decided to go with a different method offered on the same post. Either way, I love reading different opinions and methods.
