Is horse trailer insurance worth it? And how much should I expect to pay? I just bought a very nice aluminum trailer with LQ and have a lot into it and don't want to lose it. What do I need to know?

How much you pay is determined by the purchase price of the trailer.

Is it worth it? I would imagine so...but I have never had to put a claim in...

If someone else is driving your rig it will not be covered.

If it is only you in the accident your horse trailer will not be covered.

You have liability if it is you driving and if it is hooked to your truck. So only if you hit someone or if you get hit.

It is defiantly worth it. Save all contact with your agents. It is best to communicate with them about policies and EXACTLY what is covered through emails.

I bought a used 2003 Exiss 3-horse with dressing room (no LQ) and I insured it immediately.

If I would have gotten into a wreck with it, there'd be no way I could afford to get another one or pay off the loan for it. So yes, insurance is a necessity, in my mind.

I am pretty sure I pay less than $100 a year for it; hard to tell b/c we bundle all of our other vehicles with the same company.

We just bought a LQ trailer I valued to our insurance company at $40,000, insurance is about $400/year for full coverage. Our truck insurance does not cover our trailer when we are pulling it, we had to have it added to our policy as another vehicle. Our insurance company will cover someone else driving our rig if they get into an accident as long as we gave them permission to use it. Seems like every insurance company has their own rules for what they cover but it is definitely worth it!!! A faulty wire in the LQ could burn your trailer down one day, are you okay with being out all that $ you just spent on it or could you continue to make payments on something you don't have?

Added mine to my truck insurance they asked what the purchase price was and for mine it was 35k and it added like 180 a year...with my insurance you add just comp n collision to the trailer ..the liability follows the truck that's pulling it...my insurance also let me add roadside assistance and towing to it incase I ever needed it which was cheap but worth it all in that 180 per year coverage...

Can I ask who you went through? I have the trailer at $15000 and cheapest quote I've gotten is $800 a year!!!

When we had Progressive for our vehicles, that was the cheapest place for horse trailer insurance.

But we switched our vehicles when we switched our home owners. We bundle homeowners, both vehicles, the trailer and a few personal items all together. Our new company is Westfield. The trailer portion is slightly higher than progressive was. I think it's like $170 every 6 months for the trailer, but if a tree falls on it, it's covered for repairs.
