I'm having trouble finding a bit that does not bother my horse's tongue..... Anyone have any advice on a winning tongue plate bit??? I seen the ad in barrel horse world but don't know much about them.

I have the Western Universal NP (no plate). I use it on a horse that displaces his soft pallat at speed. I like it. He will still displace sometimes and make the roaring when I engage the bit too much so he would probably do better in one with the tounge plate, but he doesn't do it if I am not in his mouth.

I've only used it once but I didn't feel like I had control with the Universal western bit without the tongue plate but I know others have had great success with it. The horse I used it on was a combo steer wrestling/barrel horse so he doesn't have much of a mouth. I think it would work great on a horse with a soft mouth. JMO
