I don't think I'm asking crazy questions? But maybe y'all can let me know? Here's my questions. What division does horse currently run in and where? Any vices, special shoeing or maintenance? How is horse away at show and how does it trailer? Does the horse it trail ride?? Uhmmmm are these hard questions? I have cash in hand and these are basic need to know questions. Am I a tire kicker? I don't think I am!

All depends on what info is in the ad, if you are asking questions in the ad, yes you could be considered a tire kicker

Nope I'm not asking questions that are in the ad! But they are simple question I feel. If you can't answer these im not interested! If u state the horses height and vices I will not re ask those who questions! But some people can't messure either! It's called a tape! We should all know our horse height! Especially in a for sale add!

^^^THIS......if the answers to your questions are stated in the ad, then yes, you are being redundant. If not, no, they are good questions that "should" be asked.

As far as things already listed in the ad, I will ask people to elaborate and give details about certain comments stated in the ad. I want to know if the sell is full of it before I go look at or try a horse.

I understand what you are both saying and I agree, but is it too redundant to ask WHERE the horse was running said times and how recently?  I.E. "Horse is currently running 3d/4d times." ( I know that's a highly debatable topic and I'm not looking to start an argument about it on this thread.).  Ask about maintenance routine?  I'm certainly not a tire kicker, but I want some answers to questions before I make arrangements to see a horse.... because if I get there and fall in love with the horse and he is getting injected every three months then I've wasted your time as I don't want to purchase a horse that requires that.... And I'm not looking for a horse that runs 4d at playdays.

I wont repete any thing that I see on a sale ad when calling about the horse, but I havent bought a horse in years, but the one time I didnt ask any questions on a horse I went to see after seeing his ad, and he was a good looking fella love the way he looked but he felt a little off while riding, picked up his foot and he had a heartbar shoe on, asked why and was tolded he has a mild case of navicular, what I thought. Well didnt buy the horse. So I am one that will ask questions if buying a horse. But not planning on buying another horse just now, LOL but if I do I will ask away, sometimes things that need to be brought up dont get brought up unless asked.

Things I have learned about horse shopping
1. Ask too many questions and you are a tire kicker.
2. Don't ask enough questions and you end up with a horse that doesn't suite you and it's your fault for not doing due diligence and asking questions.
My current horse is 22 and I know I need to start looking for another horse but I am not looking forward to it at all. Hoping someone will just magically drop off my perfect unicorn in the barn with a bow. LOL

I try to answer any and all questions that prospective buyers ask me and try to do it politely, however, I DO hate the D question because it has so many variables attached to it. 1D at one place might be very, very different than another place. What the horse runs with me may be entirely different than what he runs with you. My horses are old lady proof (and if they're not, I'll tell you) and baby sit me. My 20 something jockey can get on them and outrun me a full second or more because I just really don't want to go that fast any more. So what D am I supposed to tell you they run in? All of them??? I do believe that's a very unrealistic question. I've bought horses that were consistent 4D horses with the owners and with my feed and maintenance program and my excellent jockey, they progress to 1D/2D horses.....sometimes they didn't fit their former owners and sometimes they needed some more or different training. I think you have to look at the videos, breeding, etc. and then decide whether that horse fits you well enough to be able to run the same kinds of times with them, whether or not you are willing to do what it takes to keep that horse in the upper D's, etc. As far as being sound, that can change from day to day...have them vet checked....don't ask the owner. Chances are unless it is a very high priced, high caliber horse, they won't be doing anything but feeding and riding it. But chances are also good that with some good vet work and maintenance, the horse could be a much higher caliber horse. I look for bloodlines, good manners and good basic training. I like to see certain moves on the video and like to see them come in quiet. I figure that any horse I buy will have to have things done to it before I get it like I want it. My stock questions when buying are: Do you have any videos? Does he load, haul, tie, and shoe ok? Any buck when fresh? How does he do if you don't ride regularly? Will he back out of a trailer? Does he crib, weave, bleed or have any other issues? Any issues on the pattern? If I like the answers to those questions, then I decide whether I want to go look or possibly purchase.

2 or 3 high level questions is about all i will ask via text/email -- if i want to know more i'll call as you can tell so much more by the seller's tone in answering questions

I dont think your questions are unreasonable at all. I run into the issue where I see a horse on an ad that I really like. The price is "private treaty contact seller". I have wanted so badly to ask the seller to price the horse to me because cost can vary so much from one horse to the next when you consider all of the variables. I dont want to insult them by making an offer, or waste anyones time. I wish there were a way to put a price range at least :
