Location: Texas | My husbands main working jip just had puppies, 13 to be exact. I wanted to go ahead and bathe them with a home remedy flea repellent or OTC repellent since the fleas and ticks are already so bad. The vet said at 4 weeks he would give me a script for them.
They do stay outside and are working dogs but I'm just trying to stay ahead of the flea infestation.
Edited to Clarify: When I said "already so bad" I was referring to our area, not the puppies.

Location: Ohio | Head and Shoulders shampoo will kill any that is one them right now. Im a fan of food grade diatomaceous earth for in between baths. Its a powder made up of microscopic particles that wont hurt puppy skin but shreds fleas and bugs to bits. Just sprinkle some on their coats, bedding and living area. Also can me used as a natural wormer (horses,dogs and cats) when mixed with food. Lots of articles and uses for it (gardening, bedbugs, even works on spiders).

Location: Texas | I don't know about ticks, but I know bathing in Dawn dish soap will kill the fleas on them. Not sure if that's what you're looking for. |

Location: Texas | I have used Dawn before and didn't feel like it did anything, but I will try that and H&S. Will also look into the power for their dog house and pens. I haven't seen any ticks on the puppies, but our bigger dogs have had quite a bit, more than an average year.

Location: In The Land of Cotton | For around their yard area I use DE and Borox. I sprinkle it in their bedding and on the grass and flower beds where they go. I don't have a flea problem at all. I use the Borox in the house on my huge area rugs. Let sit for half a day then vacuum up. This gets fleas that might have come in on your clothing. After one treatment I don't see fleas for the rest of the season. Just reapply every three months or so. Completely natural. |

Murphy's Oil Soap----gentle and kills fleas by the gallons. Used it on my 4 week old Husky years ago cause I couldn't find anything that I could use on one that young. Tub was black with dead fleas when I was done. Used it ever since, and that was 1989. |

Location: Central Texas | Use a vinegar and dawn mix and bathe them. Dawn kills them and the vinegar is a deterrent (they hate the smell). I also made up a spray bottle with the mix and periodically spray them and their bedding. You can also go buy bags of cedar mulch and sprinkle it in the pens/housing area (if they live outside) fleas hate the smell of cedar (that is why alot of the dog pillows are filled with some small cedar fillings). Home Depot has a small can of cedar oil. I made a spray bottle mixture of the oil and water and use it to spray their bedding and my sofa/blankets etc (mine are house dogs). I just started using these mixes and can tell a difference already. Will be spraying my yard with the same mixture (as soon as it stops raining so much). |

^^ We have done this for years in our BC kennels.
Also, in a pinch, whisk laundry detergent will kill the fleas on the puppies but be sure to follow up with a good conditioner as the whisk can be a bit harsh on their skin. We used Sauve human conditioner and it worked well. You might contact a local vet to see if they have some samples of coat conditioners to try too!
