My new husband and I are wanting to get in/stay in better shape. We both have less of a physical job these days and with the weather we haven't gotten to ride nearly as much or do outside work as much. With the heat of summer coming we know that will continue to be a problem.

We would like to get some sort of home gym. Something that would be good for strength training.

Any suggestions? Have any of you used the Total Gym? Bow flex? Anything like that?

I have a Bow Flex. Love it! Not sure what model it is but I can do just about anything on it.

I have a total gym and really like it. You can get a great full body workout and I like that you also can gain flexibility using it.

What model of the Total Gym do you have? I see there are three now. And do you have any attachments/add ons?

Anything you don't like about it?

Could you look to see what model you have? There are several and they sure seem pretty different.

We will have a  home gym in our new house, we will have a treadmill, bar bell and bench and free weights.  I have used to go to the gym but have to stay home when workers are here- we are  building a house on our property.  I LOVE the Cathe Fredrich tapes, very challenging and effective.  I use all the above equipment (minus the treadmill) plus a ball and gliders.  I canceled my gym memberhsip- her tapes ae kicking my butt.

OK, will check this evening for you. I also have a treadmilll ( Nordic Track) and an elliptical that I use as well. I figure all that gives me a pretty well rounded workout. The Bow Flex is good for core strength which I have to really work on.
ETA: I looked on Amazon, which is where I bought it years ago and it looks to be the Blaze. I can row, work my legs, arms, etc. Full body workout. Here is the link to it: Blaze Bowflex

I need the strength training and not cardio really. When I do a lot of cardio like the Turbo Fire videos etc. I love it...but I drop too much weight. (#skinnygirlproblems I know...that's annoying) So...I want a good machine for toning/strengthening.

A friend suggested I just go buck some hay...but with this soggy weather...I need some indoor exercise options!

We have a total gym and an elliptical, hubby has bad back and knees so the elliptical is easier on him than pounding on a treadmill.

My total gym is the XLS and it has everything I've ever needed but the more expensive ones do look nice.

We have a Gold' Gym home gym that we got on sale at Walmart for under $200. We really like it. It doesn't have a TON of weight so if you really want to bulk up this isn't the equipment for you but if you just want to tone up then definitely worth it!

I appreciate the responses guys! We have some shopping and looking to do. I want to get something that will be pretty easy to use so there are less excuses not to. It's good to heat what folks like about what they have etc.

Anybody know of a good workout for a 60 plus gal that needs to get back in shape? I have an elliptical and I really like it as it is easier on my one bad knee. I also walk when I can and of course take care of the horses. But it just seems like a lot of the video workouts are for someone younger than someone in their 60's.

before you buy big expensive equipment. Have you tried the 21 day fix videos? or insanity? etc something that needs minimal equipment? I LOVE the 21 day fix. It really gets you going, motivated, and feeling great.

I have an elliptical.. treadmill....bike....bowflex xtreme and honestly.. NEVER use them... I would rather jump rope... do squats.. lunges.. burpess. planks.. ride my bike or jog.. if I have to stay inside I do the Jillian Michels 30 day shred or I do cross fit workouts

I can't really do those as it has too much cardio etc and I drop weight. I don't need to lose weight...just build strength/tone. I loved the Turbo Fire workouts...but it dropped me to 116# and I'm 5"8"...Not the goal.

I could do free weights...but they just don't thrill me. The macines give it more structure as a work out and help with form for me. I just don't like being at a gym and honestly there's not one anywhere near home so I wouldn't go much.

I like a kettlebell workout. You get a full body strength workout in 30 easily. Not a big investment and you can take them anywhere.

A friend of mine has the Mirror and loves it, I have horses so that kind of money goes to feed and shoes and supplements for horses, LOL!!! I started a body weight based program about a year and a half ago after  being out of the gym for A few years.  All it takes is you and a lot of self disapline which most of us equestrians already have so...
