I have a probably dumb question. I keep my feed in large Rubbermaid barrels. During our recent heavy rains, one of the barrels apparently got wet. I have sweet feed in it and it is wet and mushy. There is no sour smell at all, but it has been sitting wet for 3 to 4 days now and I wonder if it is safe to feed? I am thinking it's not and the birds are going to get a big feast.
Yeah it's painful! I had to throw out a whole bag of Renew Gold when a part of it got wet and had a moldy chunk. The rest of it looked perfectly fine but didn't want to risk it.
Most feeds have ingredients that are not designed to get wet in the mix. There are people who are sprouting grains to feed, but not from a commercial feed blend. I have a hunch that the vet bill would be more than the cost of saving that wet feed.
