| Farrier was here earlier in the week. He's insisting I start feeding black oil sunflower seeds with my ration. Claims he has clients, that are doing it with great success. I'll admit, my horse hooves are dry, especially for this time of year. He recomended a cup a day. I picked some up 20 pounds, $12. As supplements go, their not going to break the bank. The whole thing seems kinda hokey, when you read the nutritional info. Feed mill can get me biotin in 50 pound bags. That seems more the way to go to me. Anybody singing the praises of black oil sunflower seeds here? |

I can see how it could do that, I'm skeptical about it helping hooves. |

Location: Oklahoma | I fed them, and all it did for my horses was make them want to buck. I know it was that because that's the only thing I changed, and when I quit feeding them, they quit trying to buck. Idk if it just made them feel so good they couldn't stand it, or what....but I'm too old for mine to want to buck, so I quit feeding them. I'd go with the biotin (or you can buy unflavored gelatin at the store and add that to their feed). I've also heard powdered milk helps their hooves. |

Location: God's country | I feed BOSS to my younger horses. It does wonders for their coats. My only complaint is it darkened my roans' coats up more than I like. I like the silver colored bodies and this year when they shed out they were a lot darker. Those 2 horses I took off the BOSS and they are starting to lighten up. My horses all have good hooves so there may be something to that. Overall very pleased with them. |
