I stumbled on this 8 year old mare at a local sale a couple weeks ago, shes sound but does have some sight impairment that does not seem to phase her. I got to ride her for the first time yesterday and for 8 she is a little green but talk about SMART. She needs some weight and gave her a good grooming- had to cut half her tail out due to a matt but I think I am going to try and pattern her and see where it goes the potential is there!

I will keep yall updated on her... Story goes she has cataracts and was going to be put down a few years ago because she was nearly blind. I know cataracts cannot get better but i also know this filly can find me day or night in the middle of a 30 acre pasture on her own with out a problem and vet confirmed she can see over in both eyes fine. All I know about her more recent past is shes been ranch rode a lot by an old man and you can tell, she loves to ride outside. She even will swim lol. I have not been excited over a horse since Fire In The Hole but im excited about her.

Can the cataracts be removed?
Yes it can be for around $3000 I'm not to worried about it at the moment and may try a natural traetment that is an actual treatment for cataracts in Russia and England that is a lot less invasive with a 90% success rate and a lot cheaper.

Let us know how it works, sounds interesting! 3K is a lot of money to invest in her without knowing her potential. Good luck with her!

I am interested to hear about this treatment. I know someone who just saved a horse that was going to be put down due to cataracts. Thanks and cool find on the mare.

It's Carnosine based eye drops or "Can- C eye drops"
Thank y'all I have rode her the past few days and really enjoy her!
