Folks call me 'Huey'.. but... That's not my name...
I've always hated my name... even more now that Muslim looking names draw hate. but...

I'm one of the rare people that have a 'one of a kind' name... I'm the only person in the world that has my name...

My first name is Huson... (Pronounced Hew-Sun) I'm named after my dad's grandfather, John Huson, who was a dairy farmer in Wisconsin .... but............. I was born in Japan.... so my babysitters were Japanese..
Well, in case you don't know, The Japanese excel at politeness. They use honorifics extensively... My dad is named David... so he was called David-San. My brother is named Jay... so they called him Jay-San...

Well... apparently.. Huson-San was too much trouble... so they started calling me Huey-San

........and that's why everybody calls me Huey.

My mother named me after a mare she owned. Fitting, I guess, because I've been horse-crazy ever since I can remember. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/robin+hood+price

Interesting story, btw, Komet. You're right, I've never heard that name before, either as a first name or as a surname. Very unique!!!

I was born in 1970 and was named after Cher, as in Sonny & Cher. My first name is Cherice. Everyone pronounces it like "Shur-eese", but it's supposed to be pronounced "Share-eese". My middle name is Michelle. I never shared my name with anyone while growing up.

I think my mom sat down a smashed a whole bunch of names she liked together lol. My name is Shareasa, always mispelled and always mispronounced. I can tell someone my name and they will turn right around and say "Ok Teresa" or whatever other name they want to call me lol. I just tell people now, if you can get anywhere close I will answer, and I do.

My parents named me Christine with the full intent of calling me Chris. They did not give me a middle name...I'm still somewhat mad about that. LOL. Fast forward to pre K. The class already had two boys named Chris and a girl named Christine. The pre k teacher decided to call me Chrissy and thats what I learned to write. My parents were not happy about it but it stuck.  My parents still refuse to call me Chrissy but that is what the rest of the world knows me as.

So did my dad, he wanted me to name my kid if it was a boy Bernice Aubrey (Aw-bray) after him... no thanks. I did however give my daughter his middle name, we say it (aw-bree) though. lol That is as good as he is going to get.

It took me a long time before I actually liked my name. I would say about 8th grade I started deciding that I liked not having to go by Ashley M. or little Amber. I was just me lol. My last name was horrid, so me being able to just go by my first name was a big plus!

My mom just liked the way Kendra sounded. No reason. We don't have any family to give a flying F what we were named or what my kids (if any) would be named. If I had a daughter some day I'd probably name her Sorrell.

Well at first my name was supposed to be Arizona Grace after my great great grandmother. The only nice thing my biological father did for me was make sure I was not named that.

Then my mom's second choice for me was Amanda. Well, when my mom was in labor there was another lady in the same room. She had a baby just a few minutes before me. They named her Amanda. So my mom went with her second choice which was Karen.

She knew I was a twin but thought my sister was a little boy. My sister went without a name for a couple days until she could come up with hers.

So I am Karen Grace and my sister is Robin Ann.

My first name is Leslie. I never really liked it growing up. When I asked my mom why she chose that name, she said because her sister had already named her daugther Lisa................
My middle name is Anne (the most common middle name in the United States LOL) after my grandmother, who as actually named Anna.....

My dad first had a dog named Jenny, then later he had a horse he called Jenny.  My mom hated Jenny but she agreed on Jennifer as long as my dad promised to never ever call me Jenny.

So I'm named after a horse and a dog.  And if I ever have a daughter, I'm naming her Harleigh after my favorite horse.

My mom's name is Rita Carol, dad's name is Johnny Carroll, maternal grandfather was Cecil Carroll. When I was born, Momma wanted to name me Carol Lynn----her maiden name was Lynn. Pappaw Cecil said h-ll no, there were enough Carols!! So I got Debra Lynn----don't know where the "Debra" came from. I always hated "Debra".

I am an only child and so is my daddy, so when I got pregnant, my child was "Chandler" (my maiden name) whether girl or boy. I didn't want "Chandler" to end with me. My son is Christopher Chandler Thompson. Well, when I divorced, I went back to my maiden name. After that I had an acquaintance---who is now a very close friend---ask if my son's name was Chandler Chandler. . . . I told her no, I wasn't into the Sirhan Sirhan thing!!!!

I named my youngest son after a family name that had been carried down for years. Pre Civil War as a last name and then became a middle or first name. Bates. My great uncle was killed in WWII and the name stopped there. So I started it up again with my son. To honor him.

I haven't met anyone with my first name spelled and pronounced like mine; Kyrstin (as in, kur-stin, not k-year-stin). I usually get Kristin the most, but I've gotten Christine before too. My mom said she liked the name Shasta (like the soda) and my grandmother wanted me to be named after her mother, Beulah Beatrice. I'm so thankful that the lady in the next delivery room also had a girl that day and named her Kristin. Mom liked that name, but wanted to make it her own.

I have a pretty unique name, Jayden, and everyone tells me it's a guy name! My parents couldn't decide on a middle name so I have two! At least both middle names start with the same letter so I don't have weird innitials.

My dad got to name my brother and he isn't very creative, he had a dog named Jake when he was a kid, a bull named Jake in high school, and his beloved roping horse is Jake, so naturally he named my little brother "Jake"!

The first names in our family aren't anything special but what our parents liked. Our middle names are the interesting ones because they are last names from a previous generation or 2. Kind of keeps us all connected in a way.

My dad named me. His is Danny and I am Dana. In general I haven't heard of many, although I am 1 of 3 Dana's in my family on my moms side. Middle name is LynnE, like my mom and now my daughter.

As far as kids, I wanted to name my daughter Luccetta (lu setta) but my husband did not agree! It is an old family name. Luccetta America actually. I wanted to name my son Rhyland Scott, Scott was my maiden name and Rhyland is a family name. He ended up being Thomas Lee. My daughter, who was 5 picked out Thomas when I was pregnant and insisted that would be his name. Lee is my husbands middle name. My daughter and I both have the middle initial L so I gave it to our son also even though I wanted to make it Scott

My name is Sterling. My dad named me after the town where I'm from; Sterling, Alaska. When I was growing up I didn't like it much. I was teased about having a different name. Kids can be so mean but as an adult I love it! I get compliments all the time about how pretty it is or they say they've never met a woman with that name, only men.

My name is Claire, after my great grandma. Interestingly enough her and I both share a great love for shoes (you should see my closet!) One thing that bothers me is its a simple name and no one can spell it correctly they never use all of the vowels it always ends up being Clair, or Clare.

My name is Erin, classic girl spelling. From the time my parents found my mom was pregnant with twins (1979 and two weeks before we were born, we were 2 months early), my dad was convinced two boys. Well, technology wasn't what it is now and they didn't know but it was one boy and one girl. The original plan was Wyatt (my brother) and I was to be named Aaron (after the great Hank Aaron, they didn't like Hank, so Aaron it was) and all that had to change quickly, so, since I am truly 75% Scott irish, Erin it was. :)))

BTW - I am a huge sports fan and daddy's girl...have been since birth.

I was suppose to be Shannon; however, my dad did not care for the name. While my mother was asleep, they came in to register the name and my dad went with Kathryn. My mom was always pretty upset about it and made comments my entire childhood. Once I was older, I learned Kathryn was the name of a girl my dad dated prior to my mom. Dad said he always liked the name and not necessarily pining for the ex girlfriend. My parents have been married 58 years, so there must be some truth to what he said.

My name is Rebecca..born in 1990 so my parents could've found out what they were having but chose not to. I was their last of five and they wanted a surprise :) They had a list of three girl's names...Anna, Carly and Alison I think. They said I came out and looked nothing like any of those names! I was a bit early, in the hospital 4 days and I think they took every bit of 2-3 days to decide. Apparently they didn't talk about it they just both agreed to think about it and then share their ideas. Apparently the one name they could each come up with was Rebecca.
My middle name is Lynn...and I was born the same yr that country song came out, oddly enough. Lol.

On one of the poker sites I play on, I have a lady friend from Canada with your name.... You two are the only ones I've ever seen with it.

Ha ha. There are 2 Jayden's in my daughters class and one in my sons class

komet. - 2015-05-18 6:08 AMFolks call me 'Huey'.. but... That's not my name...I've always hated my name... even more now that Muslim looking names draw hate. but...I'm one of the rare people that have a 'one of a kind' name... I'm the only person in the world that has my name...My first name is Huson... (Pronounced Hew-Sun) I'm named after my dad's grandfather, John Huson, who was a dairy farmer in Wisconsin .... but............. I was born in Japan.... so my babysitters were Japanese..Well, in case you don't know, The Japanese excel at politeness. They use honorifics extensively... My dad is named David... so he was called David-San. My brother is named Jay... so they called him Jay-San...Well... apparently.. Huson-San was too much trouble... so they started calling me Huey-San........and that's why everybody calls me Huey.
My friend used to have a big grey horse named Huey.

Nannette after Nannette dresses...I was supposed to be a boy, dad and his buddies were going to throw beer caps in a hat and which ever beer had the most caps that was my name. Big problem they drank cheap beer so I would have been like Oly or Hamm's or Pabts.... Thankfully I was born a girl, they didn't have a name picked out so mom grabbed an ad insert from a paper and put her finger on an ad for Nannette dresses.

I am the youngest of 7 girls (and one brother). My parents ran out of creative ideas for the youngest two of us. Rather generic and plain and I never much liked my name. My mother's name was Wathena and I had an Aunt Leona. My oldest sister did get Wathena Jane (we use it as all one word) but Leona was still free!I also like Wynonna. I also could have seen myself with a now, gender neutral name like Sam(antha), Chris, Toni or something similar. I do not care for my name but am stuck with it.......sigh......

I am Nancy.  My mother's name is Jocele, she did not like having an unusual name and gave me and my siblings simple names, John, Sally, Kelly and Nancy, I am the spoiled baby of the family.

I was supposed to be Breanna Lynn and apparently my dad decided he didn't like it at the last minute. Changed it to Kyla without my mom knowing. I hated it growing up because I always got called Kyle even though I was a girl. I love it know, but have learned to answer to Kayla, Kylee or anything else that is close. I like somewhat unique names and when we found out we were having a baby girl, we decided on Austyn and it fits her so perfectly.

My parents were not creative at all. On my father's side there is a long line of Douglas' so I was named after my dad's father. My middle name Jake is named after my mom's father. So my parents didn't want to call me Douglas because there were to many in the family and my mom thought Jake sounded to old for a little kid so I was nick named Jay.I went by Jay until I graduated from High school and everything changed to my official name.Been known as nick names during life: Jay Dog, Spike, and HatchetPacker.

My husband is named, marlon. His father was in the national guard and his favorite gun was a marlon something. So he named our daughter Marley. My great grandfather, grandfather, father and I all have the middle name jean (gene for men). So we have Marley Jean. And her initials are the same as my husbands.
