Location: SE Louisiana | Folks call me 'Huey'.. but... That's not my name...
I've always hated my name... even more now that Muslim looking names draw hate. but...
I'm one of the rare people that have a 'one of a kind' name... I'm the only person in the world that has my name...
My first name is Huson... (Pronounced Hew-Sun) I'm named after my dad's grandfather, John Huson, who was a dairy farmer in Wisconsin .... but............. I was born in Japan.... so my babysitters were Japanese..
Well, in case you don't know, The Japanese excel at politeness. They use honorifics extensively... My dad is named David... so he was called David-San. My brother is named Jay... so they called him Jay-San...
Well... apparently.. Huson-San was too much trouble... so they started calling me Huey-San
........and that's why everybody calls me Huey. |

Interesting story, btw, Komet. You're right, I've never heard that name before, either as a first name or as a surname. Very unique!!!

Fast forward to pre K. The class already had two boys named Chris and a girl named Christine. The pre k teacher decided to call me Chrissy and thats what I learned to write. My parents were not happy about it but it stuck. My parents still refuse to call me Chrissy but that is what the rest of the world knows me as. |

So did my dad, he wanted me to name my kid if it was a boy Bernice Aubrey (Aw-bray) after him... no thanks. I did however give my daughter his middle name, we say it (aw-bree) though. lol That is as good as he is going to get.
It took me a long time before I actually liked my name. I would say about 8th grade I started deciding that I liked not having to go by Ashley M. or little Amber. I was just me lol. My last name was horrid, so me being able to just go by my first name was a big plus! |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Well at first my name was supposed to be Arizona Grace after my great great grandmother. The only nice thing my biological father did for me was make sure I was not named that.
Then my mom's second choice for me was Amanda. Well, when my mom was in labor there was another lady in the same room. She had a baby just a few minutes before me. They named her Amanda. So my mom went with her second choice which was Karen.
She knew I was a twin but thought my sister was a little boy. My sister went without a name for a couple days until she could come up with hers.
So I am Karen Grace and my sister is Robin Ann. |

| My dad first had a dog named Jenny, then later he had a horse he called Jenny. My mom hated Jenny but she agreed on Jennifer as long as my dad promised to never ever call me Jenny.
So I'm named after a horse and a dog. And if I ever have a daughter, I'm naming her Harleigh after my favorite horse. |

When I was born, Momma wanted to name me Carol Lynn----her maiden name was Lynn. Pappaw Cecil said h-ll no, there were enough Carols!! So I got Debra Lynn----don't know where the "Debra" came from. I always hated "Debra".
I am an only child and so is my daddy, so when I got pregnant, my child was "Chandler" (my maiden name) whether girl or boy. I didn't want "Chandler" to end with me. My son is Christopher Chandler Thompson. Well, when I divorced, I went back to my maiden name. After that I had an acquaintance---who is now a very close friend---ask if my son's name was Chandler Chandler. . . . I told her no, I wasn't into the Sirhan Sirhan thing!!!! |

| I haven't met anyone with my first name spelled and pronounced like mine; Kyrstin (as in, kur-stin, not k-year-stin). I usually get Kristin the most, but I've gotten Christine before too. My mom said she liked the name Shasta (like the soda) and my grandmother wanted me to be named after her mother, Beulah Beatrice. I'm so thankful that the lady in the next delivery room also had a girl that day and named her Kristin. Mom liked that name, but wanted to make it her own.

As far as kids, I wanted to name my daughter Luccetta (lu setta) but my husband did not agree! It is an old family name. Luccetta America actually. I wanted to name my son Rhyland Scott, Scott was my maiden name and Rhyland is a family name. He ended up being Thomas Lee. My daughter, who was 5 picked out Thomas when I was pregnant and insisted that would be his name. Lee is my husbands middle name. My daughter and I both have the middle initial L so I gave it to our son also even though I wanted to make it Scott |

Location: Nashvegas | My name is Erin, classic girl spelling. From the time my parents found my mom was pregnant with twins (1979 and two weeks before we were born, we were 2 months early), my dad was convinced two boys. Well, technology wasn't what it is now and they didn't know but it was one boy and one girl. The original plan was Wyatt (my brother) and I was to be named Aaron (after the great Hank Aaron, they didn't like Hank, so Aaron it was) and all that had to change quickly, so, since I am truly 75% Scott irish, Erin it was. :))))
BTW - I am a huge sports fan and daddy's girl...have been since birth.

While my mother was asleep, they came in to register the name and my dad went with Kathryn. My mom was always pretty upset about it and made comments my entire childhood. Once I was older, I learned Kathryn was the name of a girl my dad dated prior to my mom. Dad said he always liked the name and not necessarily pining for the ex girlfriend. My parents have been married 58 years, so there must be some truth to what he said. |

I was their last of five and they wanted a surprise :) They had a list of three girl's names...Anna, Carly and Alison I think. They said I came out and looked nothing like any of those names! I was a bit early, in the hospital 4 days and I think they took every bit of 2-3 days to decide. Apparently they didn't talk about it they just both agreed to think about it and then share their ideas. Apparently the one name they could each come up with was Rebecca.
My middle name is Lynn...and I was born the same yr that country song came out, oddly enough. Lol. |

| I am the youngest of 7 girls (and one brother). My parents ran out of creative ideas for the youngest two of us. Rather generic and plain and I never much liked my name. My mother's name was Wathena and I had an Aunt Leona. My oldest sister did get Wathena Jane (we use it as all one word) but Leona was still free!I also like Wynonna. I also could have seen myself with a now, gender neutral name like Sam(antha), Chris, Toni or something similar. I do not care for my name but am stuck with it.......sigh...... |
