This time of year really came up fast and we are behind the ball.

We are needing to get 2 graduation gifts but the SO wants to get them something they will keep forever.

One if for his niece, she is into country stuff...  horses, farming, ag, hunting.

Second is for SO's daughters boyfriend...  He is big into winter sports, hunting...

All I really remeber getting for graduation is money and my grandma got me a really cool lamp that I still cherish.

Any suggestions on something unique that they might keep for a long time?

For events like graduation, I think money is the most helpful thing. It is a time in life when the graduates have to transition into full time work and/or new living arrangements and/or college. Money is most needed. I am a high school teacher and I see many kids graduate this year. So, this is just my opinion.

Money is always great.  A good share of them are moving out on their own and need a bunch of the basics for their own home.  My brother got binoculars from someone.  I thought it was weird at the time but there have been quite a few times when binoculars would have come in handy for me.

I honestly don't think I got any gifts for high school graduation that I still have except for my laptop (which is junk now anyway).  Money is so crucial.  I also got some gift cards to places that were only in the town I was moving to for college.  Those where pretty neat and definitely something I'd for others.

I got a Lane hope chest from my mom that I still cherish but I give money as grad gifts since most kids need it the most getting ready to move to college, go out on their own, etc.

LUGGAGE

I got a nice luggage set for HS graduation and it has been all over the country with me. It's a large suitcase, a rolling duffle with my name embroidered, and a makeup bag. Other than that my mom got me a much needed laptop that crashed a couple years ago, and my dad bought me a Camry that is still kicking. The rest was money, which was helpful but knowing myself I blew through that pretty quickly lol.

Well, I guess it depends on your relation to the graduate. Someone I am quite close with--maybe $50. Someone I am not so close with--maybe $25.

This, I just gave $100 to my God-Daughter, gave $25 to 2 other grads I wasn't as close to.

What about a watch for the boyfriend and a nice necklace for the niece. Something they can wear on special occasion or on a date.

I'm giving Wal mart gift cards.

I know this isn't something that they will keep forever but our son really loved getting a $500.00 Walmart gift card. He was able to get things he needed once he got to school. He has told us time and again that this was one of his favorite gifts.

One of my favorite things I got and still have is a quilt that was made for me. Love that quilt. Also got an afghan, framed cross stitched horse and luggage that I still have. Luggage is almost falling apart. I graduated 20 years ago. I know exactly who got me the above items. Can't remember the rest.

For my nieces and nephews, I like to buy nice gifts that they can keep. For my nieces, I bought nice earrings. I spent $100 on each pair and watched sales to find them. For my nephew who ropes, I bought a pair of stirrups with his name on them.

What I was going to say.

If you want a lifelong gift, think furniture.  Like a custom/rustic mirror for the niece, maybe a gun rack for the boy....

I just gave a sweatshirt to the school that the graduate is going to be attending in the fall.  He loved it.  I know as a college student I could not justify spending my $$$ on logo anything for myself.
