What do you do to help your horse when their ulcer(s) seems to be bothering them?
I ran my guy this weekend without jailbreak, which I always run him on to help protect him since he tends to get very worked up. BIG mistake! He has now been off his grain the last couple days. He is already on Gastrotech which has done miracles for him. But what do you do if one has a fair up and it's particularly bothering them?
I have mine on Neigh - Lox Advanced. He gets 2 scoops twice a day every day. It has made a huge different in him. He's a lot calmer at the gate & thinks about his run more.

Honestly, your best course of action is to treat all over again. Especially if you originally used omeprazole to treat. Omeprazole is recommended to be used indefinitely. Youre supposed to treat for at least 28 days with the full dosage then use the 'maintenance dose' from then on. If you stop, the pumps that were being inhibited get turned back on full blast. Then you end up with even more problems than you started with.
Ulcers can form in as little as 3-5 days. Sometimes the worst symtoms mean a horse has bleeding ulcers, which need strict treatment and maintenance to keep them at bay.

Usually I use the ulcer prevent but when it is close to a competition I will switch him back the GastroPLUS a couple days before, during the event and a few days after. My gelding is a silent worrier and freaks out. This seems to keep his stomach happy and healthy. I also have him on FORCO. Love what FORCO does for all of my horses. I feel like THE and FORCO are a power couple together. lol
