Hi Ladies!  I'm curious to hear opinions about different conceal carry guns and preferences from other women.  I can't seem to find much online that gives a woman's point of view on this topic.

What is your choice of gun?  How do you carry?  Did it take you awhile to get comfortable carrying?

I just bought a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 40cal that I will be using to carry when I get my CCW permit.  I'm picking it up this weekend and am really excited to shoot it!

I have 2 that I can carry concealed. The first one I got is a Bersa 9mm. Very handy, and nice shooting.
But I prefer to carry the other one, a S&W 38 special. both are small enough to put inside my waistband on my right side. And most of the time I really don't have an issue. Unless I wear jeans that are way below my waist. Somehow my hipbone gets in the way then. But most jeans I have wear a bit higher, so no problem.
I like the S&W because it has a concealed hammer. That way it doesn't snag on anything.
Also a revolver will be ready when you need it. There is always a chance that an automatic jams.

Ruger Security Six-revolver. Kind of big actually, but I really like how it shoots and am really comfortable with it so that is keeping me from getting something smaller. I am working on getting a shoulder type harness as it is a bit big to carry on my belt. Sure gets the point across though and my dad said having a pistol shaped bulge under my jacket isn't always a bad thing. Make the thugs think twice.

Carry what YOU are comfortable shooting, handeling, and using.

I carry a S&W M&P 9mm sub compact.  I love it.  Smooth action and it fits my small palms/ long fingers really well.

Before my CC class I shot probably 1,000 rounds through it.  I was familiar enough with it to shoot with either hand at many different distances to the target.

Also, I really like this website - SUPER helpful!  Good Luck!

I have a smith and wesson 38 special made from titanium, so it's very light.  I do prefer a revolver, but I hate shooting this gun because it kicks like a mule.  It's purely for defense purposes, tho, so I don't guess that matters.

I know I will be comfortable shooting the gun I just bought...I shoot every gun my husband has and handle them fine (Kimber 1911, Springfield XD 40cal, ect).  I fully plan to put probably over 1,000 rounds through it before I even think about applying for the ccw permit.

I have scoured the internet looking for information on women who carry and to try to get a women's perspective on it.  I have found some info, but there just isn't much.  There is plenty of information from men!

At this point, I'm thinking I would be most comfortable carrying in my purse (when I have my purse with me).  I know there are a lot of other ways to carry, but they just look uncomfortable to me and I'm not sure I would like them.

unless you have a purse that you can put over your neck and under your arm, I wouldn't put one there. A purse is one of the first thing a person has taken from them, or leaves in the car or under their chair etc. I am maybe paranoid but I look at it this way. If they grab me and throw me in the back of a van. I have a weapon or 2, maybe 3, hidden on me. I can shoot the fool in the back of the head as he is driving away if need be.  Take my chances on one hell of a wreck vs getting raped and murdered.

That gives me something to really think about.  Thank you.

I have time to figure this all out but am definitely thinking about it now.

I live in California, and the crazies seem to be rampent here, so I will have a gun on me in some way.  Hopefully I will never have to use it in self defense, but I would rather have it and never use it, than be sorry I didn't have one.

Buy the one you are willing to carry 24/7, they do no good at home while youre getting butt diddled in a van down by the river.

I carry a few different pistols depending on where I am going and what I will be doing that day; it varies between a Kimber 1911, a long slide Glock .40, or the teeny baby frame (I forget the model number) Glock 9mm.

I 100% agree with WYO that you should NOT carry in your purse. I have several holsters that sit inside my waistband, a few that sit outside, and then a bra one. I don't really care for the bra one - I have a bigger chest and I have found that things just get too tight in that area with a pistol in the mix.

My FAVORITE place to find CC friendly clothing is 5.11 Tactical - they have a website. I love their jackets that have zip pockets, that have INNER zip pockets that would allow you to reach a pistol with your hands in your pocket without ever having to readjust your shirt in any way. They are also really comfortable and really cute - unless you are a fellow CC and KNOW the brand, nobody would be able to say "oh, well that's a tactical jacket for sure." I have a few that are specifically designed for women, and a few that were designed for men - they all rock.

With all the crazy happening in the world, I CC always. The only time I don't carry is when I'm wearing a dress to a fancy event - and I'm currently on the hunt for the perfect Lara Croft holster to solve this problem.

Sounds like you've got a plan and people around you that are knowledgeable ... Great!!

I carry in the waist band of my jeans with an elastic type holster I bought off  thewellaremedwoman.com

I also agree, don't carry in your purse - carry on your person in an easy to access spot - If you can get with a good self defense/ccw instructor they can help you decide on where/how to carry on your person.  For example, I don't have much of a booty but mine helped me find a holster that fit on my body and sits nicely in the small of my back.

I probably won't be getting one of those.

Have a glock 9mm, 40 cal and 380, plus a browning Hi power 9mm and Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 with crimson sights.......love them all.....the Kimber 45 is small but heavy........I carried the browning til I got the Glock 380 and now it is my go to carry gun.....carry it all the time .....you need to see which one suits you.....some have a safety some dont.....I prefer one without a safety but I carry with a full  magazine in the gun but not one in the chamber but I have no problem racking it back.  Doing that is comfortable to me as I shoot a lot but some women cant rack one back efficiently enough for that to be effective.

I've had my CWP for about a year. My glock 17 9mm is just really too big and heavy to carry on any kind of regular basis.  I recently purchased a Kimber Solo 9mm...the mag only holds 6, unless you get the extended mag (backordered), which holds 8 rounds. I really really like this gun. Overall, I feel that the quality is better than my Glock, and I like how the Kimber has some weight, even though its a micro, so that it doesn't kick much. I am guilty of carrying in my purse, but I do see the validity in some of the points that have been made in this discussion. At first, I mainly wanted a gun for home protection since I live alone out in the country. Then my concern was if I broke down on the side of the road, by myself on the way to a rodeo...

I have a common looking nylon fanny pack that is specially made for my gun. Looks just like the generic ones that joggers wear, only instead of the "pack" part being on your back side, it's on your front. Velcro tab on top that you can just rip it open real quick and reach for your weapon. No way does anyone know I am packing. If I'm wearing a baggy shirt, sweat shirt, sweater or jacket no one can even see it.
My weapon of choice is a .38 S & W filled with hollow points. Has a little kick, but it doesn't bother me a bit. :)

My friend carries on her hip at all times . She wears an open blouse over her norm , so most times you never even notice it. MY other friend carries all the time and she wont tell you where she carries, her husband works at the prison. So keeping it on where you may feel comfortable could be fairly easy. I think the hip would be best.

snazzy - 2015-05-22 5:11 PM  Have a glock 9mm, 40 cal and 380, plus a browning Hi power 9mm and Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 with crimson sights.......love them all.....the Kimber 45 is small but heavy........I carried the browning til I got the Glock 380 and now it is my go to carry gun.....carry it all the time .....you need to see which one suits you.....some have a safety some dont.....I prefer one without a safety but I carry with a full  magazine in the gun but not one in the chamber but I have no problem racking it back.  Doing that is comfortable to me as I shoot a lot but some women cant rack one back efficiently enough for that to be effective.

Here's an interesting video that might make you reconsider carrying with the chamber empty.
