I have a mare, hard to fit... Need a pad that has some build up in the shoulder area. What is your favorite and why? I have looked an impact gel contoured build up pad. Anyone used these?

I ride with a gal who likes the diamond d with the shims. I know Ed weight makes one that is nice. Personally I like using my 5 star with classic equine shim (like what they use with the crown c's) over it. Keeps it versatile and easily removed when the muscle is built up.

Right now I'm using a Professional's Choice air ride orthopedic pad to help my gelding out in his Double J. It's really helping, but I can't wait to get back into my 5 Stars.

I have never shimmed. My mare is harder to fit. She is narrow and gets wider. Saddle dips a little in the front, does not hit wither or anything but drives me crazy. Without a pad saddle lays nice add a pad and I'm mind blown. Ugh!! So I though about trying the buildup pad by impact gel. I did rider her in a cutter collection pad when I tried the saddle and it was good but my 1/2 " 5 star not enough and 1" impact gel too much, a site ride PC is ok but need a little more in the front. I'm exhausted with trying pads..

My saddle is a little wide in the front for my mare. I have pics if anyone is interested in taking a look. I could send them to u. I can't post them from my phone.

Sounds like shimming could be a good option then. If the 1/2" 5 star is fitting her at the widest part the shims would fill in the narrower part. Similar effect to a built up pad but more versatile in my opinion.

I love love my CSI. I have two horses with high withers and a super wide horse. It fits great on all of them and different saddles. Would highly recommend one

Sounds like what was happening to me! I had him fitted in September (two weeks after he was laid off for injury) and I ordered my saddle in February. When I put it on him with a 5 star the back was popping up some. My chiro said it was too wide for him right now (muscle atrophy from time off) and when I spoke to Phillip (with Double J) he suggested the ortho pad with the extra build up. I asked about shimming and he wasn't to keen on it (maybe that's because Martin is a competitor). I got a good deal on the pad so I went with it.
I'll try to find before and after pics with the different pads. I would love to help you post yours, but I have to be on wifi to get them to load to Photobucket and I'm not near wifi today! Hopefully someone else can help out!

Your saddle fit looks pretty similar to how mine fits.... And your horse's back looks really similar to my gelding's with the lack of muscle behind the withers. Hopefully you can find something to help even things out!

The Classic Equine Bio Fit Shim pad works well for me. You can adjust the amount of shim you get by moving your saddle forward and backward on your horse.

Stop buying saddles and pads and listen to a pro that already has everything figured out ... you guys are caught up in a marketing frenzie by pad and saddlemakers ...
The trainers you send your horses to don't have a different saddle and pad for every horse they are training on .... they are using their 20 year old saddles on everything..

I definitely am not going with marketing frenzy on Saddles. I have been using my husbands for some time. I am not opposed to shim just don't know how. Lol I have a 1/2 pad that is to thin, if I use a 1" it's to thick for the rest of the saddle. So what would you suggest? 3/4 and shim? Just thought a buildup pad might work. When I tried the impact gel pad it moved a little. Thanks for any suggestions. I appreciate any and all. I plead the fifth on feeding into the saddle pad market.

Watch the video of Cervi putting the classic equine shims on a horse to shim a crown c. It's on the Martin website. You can shim any brand saddle. It's the only way I've managed to get a saddle to fit my pear shaped horse. He has a wide back with a high wither.
