My friend and I are debating the correct way to have barrel racing stirrups on the saddle. Should the top part bend back towards flank or forward towards shoulder. I tried to load a pic but it said was too large.

I wondered the same thing when I first got some offset stirrups. They're designed to be bent or curved towards the flanks, so your heel will be further in the stirrup. However, if you prefer riding on the ball of your feet for balance, turn them so that the curve is towards the shoulder when your foot is in them. I tried both ways, and I like using the ball of my foot to ride. Honestly, if you try both ways you'll notice there's not much difference. I do love the slanted stirrups though, now they help more for me.
