I know some makes ice wraps for knees but I would have to order them because no one close to me sells them and I need them now. So is there alternative but efficient ways to ice a knee? Don't have to do the whole leg just the knee area.

Wet maxipads and freeze. Put one on each side of knee and wrap with vet wrap or ace bandage. You will get about 30 minutes of cold from this. Repeat if needed with other frozen pads.

Cut the leg off an old pair of jeans. Cut slits around the bottom and top so that you can insert a leather lace or shoe string around to use as a tie. Cut the leg to the required length to tie above and below the knee. Put horses leg into it and slide it up over the knee. Pull bottom lace tight and tie. Fill with ice. Pull top lace tight and tie. It should stay where you put it.

In a ziplock bag put water and alcohol. Alcohol keeps it from freezing solid and that way it shapes to the knee, then you can wrap much easier.
I thought about this this morning. That's what we make our ice packs out of for human use. But can it lay directly on his skin or would I need to put something under it? If I need something under the ice what would I use?

I put a towel between my knee and the ziplock bag...not sure if the horse needs that or not. I use 1 part alcohol to 4 parts water but had to experiment to get the texture I liked. Maybe a light towel then cover with polo wraps or vetwrap. Its an off shape to keep wrapped, but it should work for a short time.
