Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | Ive been MIA for a little while, life has been pretty busy lately with riding, showing and redoing a lot of things in our house...
BUT, I just had to come on and post about my new discovery..ESSENTIAL OILS!! I am not here trying to sell these oils, or advertise...simply sharing my new, amazing and healthy discovery. If anyone wants more information or the name of the company..you can pm. Everything I am sharing in this post are my personal experiences.
Ive been hearing about Essential Oils from my SIL for the last year. I thought she was nuts and it was a scam and all "in her head"
But after really listening to her talk about them and seeing them actually help and work for her family(pets included) I decided to give it a shot. Ive been using oils for the last few months and I LOVE THEM! I can say that neither myself, my fiance or any of our animals have had to take any type of medication or anything. For me, thats pretty amazing! I have scoliosis so I am constantly battling back and hip soreness..especially during show season, now I have a natural, safe product to use.
Usually by now, my fiance is miserable bc of allergies..now he takes a spoonful of oils and honey every morning and he no longer battles allergies. I diffuse a sleepy mixture that helps my very restless sleeping hubby to be and now he sleeps like a baby.
After we have had so much success with these oils..I decided to branch a little farther and start using them on the animals. I have been soaking their collars in a mixture and letting them dry and then they become a natural flea and tick repelling collar, and I spray a mixture in their coat and rub it in...NO FLEAS OR TICKS SO FAR! Our lab, Boone has separation anxiety...he doesnt like to be left alone and often gets distructive and or very anxious..I have him sniff the bottle for a second and I rub some on the tips of his ears..he does much much better.
I went a little further a few weeks ago and decided to let my farrier hating gelding sniff the bottle before starting and he did a lot better. Usually, he gets very tough to do and kicks...he pulled away a few times and got a little angsty but nothing like normal.
I cant wait to continue to experiment and find new uses for these lovely little alternatives. Next on my list is, fly spray!! |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | I'm a science nerd. I work in research science and I'm a HUGE skeptic. Huge. Like I don't believe anything if I can't quantify, observe or measure it. One of my friends is into the Essential oils. She tells me all about this stuff and I smile and just think...ok...whatever.
I have a weenie dog that has a form of seizure activity. She does not have full gran mal episodes...but when she is having one her pupils dilate and she shakes and becomes extremely anxious and often does the "bowing" behavior. Often she acts this way for several hours. Then when it's over she is 100% normal like it never happened. But it's sad and scary for her. We have tried phenobarbital and other traditional meds and they don't stop the episodes.
My friend talked me into trying one of her essential oils on Sophie. I figured what the heck. So she sent me some Frankincense oil. When Sophie had her next episode I applied a drop of olive oil and a drop of the frankincense to each front paw on the large pad and massaged it in. Literally minutes later she was out of it and back to normal. I was surprised...but being a skeptic I thought it could just be coincidence. Since then I have used the oil any time she starts having an episode...and every time it brings her out of it in minutes. And every time I sit there and wonder how the heck that works! Only thing I can say is maybe something to do with the cranial nerve that is responsible for the ocular and olfactory senses is somehow involved with her seizure activity(hence the dilated pupils etc). The scent of the oil maybe disrupts the activity and stops the seizure? I don't know...just a thought.
How really does it work?! I have no idea. And that makes me extremely curious as to how this can work. But...it IS working...so I'm going to keep on using it.
Lexyy...what is your hubby using for the allergies? |

| There are some books that explain how they think they work and the French have actual clinical studies on a few. They are not affiliated with the MML oil companies and don't mention essential oil companies by name, so I tend to think that gives them more validity. |

He takes a spoonful of honey and puts a drop of lemon, a drop of peppermint and a drop of lavender and takes it. We often diffuse the trio as well. Mine are not as bad as his so I don't ingest it but diffusing helps me. I also have to add....ONLY CERTAIN BRANDS OF EO's ARE SAFE TO INGEST! So be careful!
About a half hour before bed I start diffusing lavender, stress away and peace and calming. Right before bed I rub the mixture along with coconut oil on his shoulders and on his feet. I have cedarwood coming in my next order and its supposed to help with sleep too...along with many other things.
The company I purchase my oils from is amazing! Once you become a member(for free) you automatically become a wholesale member and get the products 24% off retail. I love it! |

I am also waiting to get my wisdom teeth taken out until after my wedding. They bother so much...I rub a little thieves on my gums and it instantly takes the pain away. Also good for teething babies!! |

Location: Idahome | I love them and use essential oils all the time along with herbs for myself and family and the animals. Had a horse get a nasty cut on her foot and we washed it everyday with some warm water and lavender oil, then doctored with some powdered herbs. It has healed so nicely and barely left any scar. I use the lemon oil in my water everyday to help get toxins out. When my daughter is going through growth spurts and gets tired and cranky, I use one of the mixes from DoTerra and it is night a day difference in her attitude. |

Location: Never in one place long | Awesome!! I'm ordering my Essential Oils starter kit from Young living this week!! I'm so excited, a friend of mine has been using them on her kids, animals etc. She uses a mix called thieves to rub on her kids feet to boost their immune systems. they have not been sick at all this year yet. she also uses lavender on her horse. I've heard amazing things from so many people about them! I use a natural Spray called Vetrirepel on my dogs and horses for ticks and fleas, it's made with cinnamon and lemon oil and works too! thanks for posting! I think essential oils can be a solution for a more natural health instead of using chemicals. |

Location: Alberta, Canada | I discovered oils late November last year. I now use them in my classroom, barn and house. When my class is sleepy in the mornings, I diffuse peppermint and orange and within minutes they are ready to work.
In the afternoons I diffuse Peace & Calming and Valor and it keeps them calm and focused.
My husband got a nasty flu about a month ago and by all means I should have got it... I always do when he gets it. I was diligent with Thieves and didn't have even feel fatigued! That made a believer out of even him.
I also used to be a heavy melatonin user. I have not used melatonin once since trying Cedarwood. I sleep great.
I too was skeptical... but not anymore. There's an oil for that ;) |

That is my new phrase.. anytime anyone say they have some type of issue..."thers is an oil for that" Believe me....it took almost a year of her raving and contantly proving that they work before I finally gave in and decided to buy the kit. I am now a true believer and so is my hubby to be!! I love not having to use medications and chemical filled products knowing that they are always safe for us and that they help without so many dangers and side effects. I now own two diffusers, have SOOO many oils and just became an ER member last month so now I earn money back for spending!! |

Ive been MIA for a little while, life has been pretty busy lately with riding, showing and redoing a lot of things in our house...

I cant wait to continue to experiment and find new uses for these lovely little alternatives. Next on my list is, fly spray!!
lexyy12 would you mind sharing what oils you are using on your pets for flea/tick prevention? I have a chihuahua that needs something natural instead of all the chemicals out there today. Thanks! |

Location: where the wind blows | I do use them to, although I confess not as much as I'd like to as I'm just to lazy to research what to use for what. With that being said however I had the nastiest plantar wart on the bottom of my foot for 8 years. I spent in the neighborhood of $800 on prescriptions, laser, liquid nitrogen as well as every home ready you could possibly find on the internet. It was about 1 inch at least around. My girlfriend was in to oils so I thought what the heck and asked her, She recommended the Thieves. It took about 3 months of applying it every night after my bath but its gone and hasn't come back. That was about 4 years ago. Thieves also got rid of the small wart on my finger in about 10 days.
My husband swears by Thieves for colds. If he gets a tickle in his throat he adds a couple drops to some water and drinks it down. I hate the taste so I can't do that.
I do use lavendar most nights to go to sleep. I actually have a lot of oils here I just need to start using them more.
