Location: Albany, Georgia | Trying to come up with different ideas for around my barn. I always have young horses here and I am looking for safe ways of tying. I like to leave them tied for a couple of hours at a time while others are being rode to teach patience but every once in a while someone likes to pull back, so safety is key! |

Location: Texas | Mine are trees. ("The tree of knowledge") I have several trees that have cotton lead ropes hanging down from an overhead branch. Horses are less likely to panic if they cn see all around them & move their head a bit. Also, we have to have shade here because its just so hot. I have asked my husband to build me a tie spot out by the "arena" ( which is just a big flat area LOL) & it will likely be a steel pipe H post planted very deep w/concrete. |

I'm try to think if I have any pictures of my horses tied so that you can see how much slack there is. But I'm thinking I have the ropes hanging a little past my horses heads maybe 6 to 8 inches past so when I clip the ropes to their halters its the perfect lenght. Not to low and not to high. |

Location: Kansas | We tie to our pipe fence. Posts are set in concrete and we have a larger diameter pipe welded along top at a height above their heads. No trees suitable for tying. At our last place we tied to a tree and had an intertube between the tree and the tie rope. We teach them to give to the rope and stand on a loose rope before we tie them up. We don't have many "panic" pull backs. I looked up the other day and one of the yearlings was standing at the end of his rope kind of leaning on it. I thinking he was just checking to see if it would really hold. I clicked to him and he moved back up.
We have also had a 15 foot long "fence" built like our pipe fence but with boards below the top pipe instead of pipe. We could tie colts on both sides for thinking time. Disadvantage to the fence tie spots is that they might bang their legs if they paw.

| We have one that's a superrr tall railroad tie with a tractor axle or whatver on top that spins with a lead rope attached, when the horses walk circles around the post there is no way for them to get tangled up in the rope or for it to get twisted! |
