So after a rather extensive lameness exam on a 3yo.after some in depth flexing, and observation we found swelling over his left shoulder joint and he is very reluctant of even touching it... Anyone have an idea of what it could be? Vet is thinking start with rest then move to more invasive treatment if needed...
Funny part is he "works out" of the lameness the more exercise he gets...

My mare pulled her shoulder muscle tripping and almost falling with me but she caught herself. I gave her 3 months off and she was good as new. Especially if he is working out of it, I would just give him a few months off and then reaccess the situation.
I have an extreme case, my 2 year old broke her elbow (olecranon) bone, which is up in the shoulder - luckily my fracture isnt in the joint. She had surgery on it yesterday to place a plate and screws. If stall rest doesnt help, maybe ask your vet to x-ray the shoulder.
without x-ray or ultra sound you have no idea if the damage is soft tissue or bone. I'm certainly not an expert but I don't really know of many injuries that get worse with rest. I do know arthritic issues do better with regular exercise. If it was me & I had the money I would probably want some more testing to find out exactly what I was dealing with.
