All this talk about the Triple Crown and American Pharoah.....which is absolutely awesome on its own

But did anybody catch Honor Codes win in the Met  Mile?  If not, look it up......

It is apparently.  He's done it several times.

Though for the Met mile it worked perfect.  Those fractions were WAY too fast for a mile.  He just sat back there and let the speed horses fight it out then did his job.

If memory serves me correctly, he was a contender for the 2014 Kentucky Derby but I believe an injury sidelined him.  I would have to go back and read up on it.

He is after all sired by the great A.P. Indy.....who is a legend in his own right.

Such a cool horse!! He goes into beast mode and just kills it. But as an owner that would drive me nuts! I can't take that much anxiety.

When you are the owner, trainer, groom, exercise rider, etc....you don't stress as much because you know your horse and what he's going to do.  If you watch all of his races though, you will notice his jockey only lets him drop back when the pace is blistering fast.  When it is slow, he will keep him closer to the front.

Maybe I am a worrier, LOL! when I compete I get bad anxiety. I love to compete but freak out and then once it is done I am so excited and want to go again. I know my horse is amazing and I know I can ride (maybe not win but not going to fall off or have a bad ride). But I still freak.

I think horse racing is a little bit different then barrel racing.  I know when I run my barrel horse, sometimes I can never predict if it will be a good day or a bad day, good run or bad run.

With horse racing, I think it's easier to predict if a horse will run well because you know that horse, and you now everything that's happening right up until they get to the gate.  So barring any unplanned occurences, most trainers/owners have more confidence because they know where to put these horses for success.  Does that make any sense?

Wow! That's pretty amazing! He must like to do that, or it just works for him. But often it is best to let the early speed battle it out and then overtake them.

Kinda what Zenyatta liked to do too, sit back, let the other horses think they had a chance and then come in like a wrecking ball and snatch it from them!!! LOL!!! Nice race!!!

yes, that does make sense and I agree. But imagine the first race he did that in. I think they figure out the racing style after the first race, then know what to expect. His style would get me everytime though.  But I think that is just me and exactly why I am not a trainer. lol
