Or just buy one of his barrel saddles on a cutting tree. ^^ |

Location: NE Texas | I have two Jeff Smith cutters that I had made single skirted with in skirt rigging to look like a barrel saddle. Both of my saddles are on the Buster Welch tree and have a really nice pocket to sit in. I allllllllmost sold one a couple weeks ago but I decided I just couldn't let them go. I was scared it would take me too long to get another one.
I've not sat in Tami's saddle, but it has a higher cantle than my saddle does. I do ride a bit bigger seat in this saddle. I usually ride a 14.5" barrel saddle but ride a 15" in this saddle.
Prior to the JS cutter I had made, I was riding a Joey Jemison cutter and I still have an old Rickey Green that belongs to my mother. I use it to ride outside horses and colts in. LOOOOOVE the way a cutter rides and don't think I could go back to a traditional barrel saddle.

This is what I was thinking of having done- I have been ridding a Masters on a Pheonix tree. I have sat in 15638946393 barrel saddles and hate them all but mine until I sat in a cutter and it had the same "feel" |

If ya'll like the Roo, better NEVER ride a Joey Jemison. Ohhhhhhh my! That woudl be my saddle of choice to have built if money were no object. The one I had was 100% worn out and still rode like a dream! |

I don't think Stanley has any of them done yet. Mine is going to be on a Bob Marshall cutting tree and will look like a stripped down cutter. I'm really looking forward to working on it once the tree is completed. They're having to carve the bars by hand since they don't usually make trees that small. Mine is a 14.5" |

Why not just run in a cutting saddle? If you're comfortable in it, I say use it. I've rode cutters in my barrel saddles plenty of times. I like it better.

For me, it was hard to find a true cutter in a seat any smaller than a 15" other than having one made. I was running in a 15.5 Joey Jemison. Had a 16" Marty Byrd and it was just too big. I typically ride a 14.5" barrel saddle. Plus, the cutters are mostly double skirted, long skirted and full double rigged. My horse is pretty small, so I wanted the shorter single skirt so it wasn't hitting him at the top of the hip, and also wanted the in skirt rigging to get as close of a "close contact" feel as possible. I did ride and run in my true cutters for a while before I had mine made, but was able to make the changes I wanted to best suit my needs after I knew the ride and the seat size I wanted. |

I had an old, worn out, 16" Bob Marshall cutter years ago that rode really nice! A little flatter seated than the Joey or Ricky, but it rode and fit a horse great.

I know! I figure it will be next year before it's done, but I know it will be worth the wait. We are doing it single skirt and cut down, because like you mentioned, we ride shorter backed horses and don't need the extra bulk. I also want it as light as possible, lol I figure if I absolutely hate it I can still sell it as a youth cutter. |

Location: the end of the rainbow | I recently picked up an older Martin /Sherry Cervi. It has a nice close contact & fairly flat seat like a cutter but it has a tad more "pocket" in the seat than a cutting saddle does. I really like the way it rides & am super sad that it doesn't fit the horse I bought it for. Now I'm really interested in trying out one of their newer models.

Location: USA | I know the KT balanced ride by shiloh is on a modified buster welch tree and has a flat seat. It's great for those who tend to ride a little more forward as it helps you stay on your butt. It also has forward hung stirrups |

| New in stock: 14.5" Allen Ranch cutter-cross barrel saddle. It's on a modified cutting tree and is fitting the cow-bred barrel horses really well. $3850.
Allen Ranch Saddle Shop's photo.
This was on the Allen Ranch facebook page. I tried to copy the picture but of course it didn't work. He had these saddles at the BFA also. You can go to their fb and see the pictures of them. I have an original Allen Ranch barrel saddle I have had for almost 12 years and I love it. Would love to have one of these new ones! |
