So it will be 2 weeks since I stepped out of my trailer and the ground gave way and I basically did the splits while trying to turn and catch the door to stop me. Anyway, I tore my hamstring!! I have been doing the R.I.C.E. method on it and have now had 2 appt of acupuncture. Anyone have any other suggestions and know how long I am going to be out?? Why doesnt stuff like this happen in the winter when there is nothing going on. I have so many big barrel races coming up. Reno Xtreme race being one of them that I really want to be back to riding for.... TIA

I had my hamstring severed way back in 1983. I didn't even get to rehab it riding for over a year. To this day, I am still a 'crooked' rider. I've compensated, but I don't use the one leg the same as the other. I have a walnut-sized lump of scar tissue that will pop across my hip joint and I will be in pain for weeks after.
Hopefully a tear isn't as bad as severed. It matters where on the hamstring the tear is - mine was very high. It was the hip joint that did the severing. Or at least the mushing. Getting right back up after the accident and trying to mount the stupid horse that fell on me was what actually severed it.

Oh wow lonely va barrelxr that sounds horrible. Mine did not sever. Thank goodness. But it was a bad tear. Scar tissue is what I am worried about. So doing a lot of stretching exercise and now acupuncture with massage. The first 5 days I thought I was going to die. I cant imagine you getting back on. It was all I could do to get in the truck to come home..

Where are you located? I would highly suggest going to a chiro or massage therapist who is certified in the fascial distortion model. It will be very beneficial to your recovery to get all that fascia straightened out and should significantly reduce your pain. Feel free to pm me about this if you are interested, I have incorperated this treatment in my practice and seen amazing results, especially with soft tissue injuries. I hope you have a speedy recovery!
