My 8 year old gelding (will have been undersaddle only two years in august). Has been to only four barrel races (two last year and two so far this year). Started him over fences last summer but we really haven't jumped much at all. Highest was 3ft (did that 3 times maybe lol). No courses. We trail ride a lot. Gets winters mostly off (Canada lol).

He has one larger on the right and a smaller one on the left. He is 96% sound or more only kinda stiff every so often. Took him off all work. He is on 24/7 turnout. Has been off for a week. No change really. Cold hosing and bute. But took him off the bute cuz he isn't really lame.

Is this the end of his career before it has even begun?

I had a horse with it, but it never bothered him at all. Personally I would try other things, before I would even think of injection. I would start with making sure you have a great farrier, that leaves the horse with a balanced hoof with the proper angles for the horse. Then making sure that you take your time when warming up, and a long cool down. Now days after a ride there are so many options; cool wraps, cold hose down, ice wraps, alcohol rub down, ect There are so many supplements out there, try some until you find the one that work's for your horse. Magnet's!!! are something you should look into, along with the different type's of lasers. Those are just a few idea's, with many more. Have some fun, and research/talk to others with the same situations.

The horse I had, that had it. Was my once in a life time horse. Rather than I once or twice trail ride a year with a friend with horses, this horse taught me everything. I jumped on and the rest was history. He was a 1d barrel horse, low 20 second pole horse, head horse, great trail horse would go threw or over anything, packed meat off him, parades, I could go on and on. I miss that horse soooo much, and it's hard for me to not compare him to my other or horses I look at for sale. I was out of state working, the next night I got a call from my dad that they were in route for OSU vet hospital and lost him during surgery.
