I am selling a horse for a client that is supposedly registered. I know his registered name and was told the previous owner will not respond about papers. Anyone have experience with acquiring lost papers?

If there is no transfer in place I think you are SOL. That protects the seller for horses that are sometimes sold on conditions or payments and not paid in full...and sometimes the seller/breeder is just an idiot and doesn't realize the trouble they are actually causing their own program when they sell without papers. What I am saying is sometimes it is justified and sometimes not...either way, you can't force AQHA or the seller to give up papers.
cheryl makofka - 2015-06-30 11:40 AM You have to find the last recorded owner on the papers, contact them and see if they will file lost papers and sign a transfer. If they refuse to, my understanding is you are SOL
