Well after 364 days she finally arrived!! Meet Monkey! I'm so happy with her. Right now she looks like shes buckskin like Momma but I'm not sure that she will stay that way. My only concern is that she was born in a heat wave. 103 and 104 the days before she was born, 93 yesterday the day she was born and today is supposed to be 102. Momma is just baking her in the heat she won't take her to shade. She is drinking well but hasn't plumped back up yet. Also her front legs are straight but her hind look like her tendons are a bit contracted. She's standing on the bulbs on her heels and her fetlocks are a bit knuckled over. Should I be worried at this point or just let her straighten out?
Pictures are at 3 hours old.

She is a cutie.... I have no suggestions on her feet.... but suggest asking your vet.... that's why they have the DVM behind their name!

My maiden mare had her filly and she stood just like that. I think in 4 days she was 100%. I do worry and talk to a vet if they don't straighten out after a few days.

Thank you, this mare was a maiden too. I think those long legs were just to bunched up in there. I have a call in to my vet but, I worry about doing anything like Tetracyline because her fronts are just fine. She looks a little better this morning too.

not sure about horses but we have had calves born that way, we try to message them and really stretch them back out, but they have always straighten up and not problems. They say it happens when they are big and bake a little to long!

pm me your email and I can send you pictures of my filly. I have no idea if she was over due because we pasture foal. I did she her covered and according to that she was very overdue...but if she didn't take that cycle, then the filly would have been on time. So hard to say. After 15 yrs of doing this, I don't get into too big a panic if they are still able to move around ok. All have came out of it just fine without vet intervention and all were in big pastures. I did have a mare that gave us 2 wind swept babies back to back and those sure scared the heck out of me, but again were normal in a week or so.
