Location: Eastern OH but my heart is in WV | In all seriousness when is all this "might offend someone" going to STOP????? Now TV Land is pulling the Dukes of Hazzard from their programming because of the General Lee. You know its roof might offend someone. Well TV Land you have officially offended me! Grew-up on the Dukes, carried my lunchbox faithfully everyday to elementary school with my P & J sandwich inside and I was so COOL because I had a rock'n lunchbox. I crushed on Bow and Luke for years and my brother drooled over Daisy. My kids now watch the show.
NEVER, EVER, EVER though did I EVER think "racism" as they slid in and out of the mighty General....
This is so out of hand....

My moderately rebellious side wants to go out and buy some Confederate flag spur straps or something as a conversation starter of sorts, lol

My parents didn't let us watch just any show on TV, Dynasty and Dallas got turned off because they were not suitable for kids to watch according to my parents. We did get to watch Dukes of Hazzard, Little House on the Prairie and a few others. Compared to the crap on TV now, Dukes of Hazzard is a family friendly show, this PC BS is getting way out of hand, some people need to get a life. |

However all the doing away completely with anything with the confederate flag is a knee jerk reaction. I am still reeling from its removal from Ft. Sumter. The KKK from NC will be in Columbia, SC in a couple of weeks. The pot is boiling and all of these knee jerk reactions just may cause it to boil over.

Dogs: because the basset hound just looked "doppy" all the time and often just laid around
Older people: because uncle Jessie was always wearing bib-overalls

Yept I bet the Dukes wont be the only show that gets pulled. I love the Jeffersons, George is so darn cocky, and I agree with you this is a very racist show but so darn funny, you know I never did look at it as a racist show at all just loved the laughs and humor that went with it. So sad what is happening to our beautiful United States. |

How is it that the folks that say we should be tolerant and sensitive to those who might be offended by the Southern Cross...and that we should support the right for all sexes to marry etc...How is it that THEY can turn right around and get away with offending and restricting the rights of other folks? | I am a Southerner. I have never thought of the Rebel flag as racist. I have only seen it as representing our Southern culture. I do not fly a rebel flag in my yard because I do realize that there were ill intented groups along the way that used it for the wrong reason and I do not want to give the wrong idea. I believe though, if I wanted to fly one tomorrow I should have that right as an American! The problem I have with this is being told I CANT. This is the United States for crying out loud. People can be proud to be lots of other things in this country..as long as it is "politically correct". I never thought I would see a day "The Dukes of Hazzard" would be taken off the air because of the flag painted on the General Lee. Its overkill for sure! |

I agree with your post - except that history is not being rewritten - it is being erased. What I fully expect to happne in my state next week is that the flag will come down from the State House grounds. Which museum it will be placed in - I'm not sure - but it is being relocated not done away with - there is a difference. People will still be able to view this flag - just not on the grounds of the State House. Those removing the flag from Ft. Sumter are erasing history along with all the other knee jerkers. |

I love Dukes of Hazzard!! Last year in a pageant I decided to do, I was thrown the onstage question "who was your first TV crush?".
I thought a second and realized it WAS the boys of the Dukes of Hazzard and I said it too! Country boys that can get down and dirty. Maybe it didn't please the judges, but I was just bein honest. Lol.
I recently saw that they want to ban Gone with the Wind because of the rebel flag in it...are you kidding me?  |

Pretty soon, the Christian Cross will be targeted as a hate symbol. I don't doubt it for a minute.

I've lived in the south my entire life. The southern flag is BIG with our youth around here. I know groups of ppl have twisted it into racism. But to us, most of us in the south. It represents one of the biggest losses of life in US history. Its a badge of pride and memory. Not of racism. I'd like to see them tell any of these people around here to take the logos off their back windows... we even have a deputy car with a rebel flag bumper sticker... I know and am friends with TONS of black people. Love them all as I would any of my friends. They're all just as ticked about the rebel flag crap and dukes being pulled as I am.
This is just another smoke and mirror trick to distract the american people from the true problems in a our country./ |

I loved watching the Jefferson's. George reminds me of a Bantem rooster just strutting around all the time. Cracks me up just thinking about it.
We were able to stay up to watch the Dukes and the Incredible Hulk and I have to say we turned out fairly normal in my mind. We did try some of the stunts and learned that two old Treflan barrels and some 2x4's do not make good bike ramps no matter what the General Lee can do.

My son has one, but I'm scared for him to use it now. . .
I think that the head of the AR NAACP asked the owner of Arkansas Flag and Banner today if she would stop selling the Confederate flag and she said no; she said she had been selling that flag for 40 something years and she would not stop selling a flag one group wanted just because another group asked her to.

If the flag had been flying since the Civil War I may feel diffetently. It was placed there in the 60's by Fritz Hollins, who was a democratic governor, as a response to segregation. A local recently wrote a long wah-wah article for our local paper (Dumas Clarion). Among the excuses for why certain people are the way they are (no HS education...um, they have access to public school just like everyone else; high unemployment...there are jobs out there for many of them if they were willing to sweat), she actually 3 times stated that her disabled son "can't" have a service dog because black people are afraid of German shepherds. What? If she's not going to stand up for herself, you would think she would at least stand up for her kid. And IMO, saying black folks are scared of a dog is as racist as anything else you could possibly say. I completely lost respect for this person after reading the drivel she wrote. Making excuses and apologies doesn't help anyone, but she apparently thought she was enlightening the rest of us? I don't know, it was bizarre. |

I live in Kansas and have a confederate flag on the back of my truck. In High School, my principle called me down and told me to take it off or I will be kicked off school property. I tried to explain it has nothing to do with rasicim. That it represents the Southern States being united. He didn't even let me explain & decided to be "nice" and let me just move my truck off school property.... It's sad how people just assume it means hate. They don't even let you explain what it means to YOU. |

Location: wherever my daughter's running | I am sorry I misspoke in my post. It is NOT the naacp that will be at the Statehouse Saturday. It is a group associated with the new black panthers. Our governor has made it very plain that the kkk is not welcome in SC. She has not done the same for the other group leading me to think they must be welcome. I can see no good to come from any of this. The governor has said she wants the Statehouse grounds to be a very lonely place Saturday to not give the kkk any recognition. We shall see if the media and public honor her request.Also, the female senator that captured national attention for her "passionate" speach to take down the flag announced she is "seriously considering" running for the US Senate. She would be running for the seat that represents Charleston Consequence - I think not. Please pray for my state. I don't think I am over reacting when I say I am very concerned about the events on Saturday. Far to much is happening as a result of the flag coming down.Please add law enforcement in your prayer. I know theire are bad apples but there are many more good ones. Their job Saturday at the Statehouse will be trying to say the least.

My parents didn't let us watch just any show on TV, Dynasty and Dallas got turned off because they were not suitable for kids to watch according to my parents. Compared to the crap on TV now, Dukes of Hazzard is a family friendly show, this PC BS is getting way out of hand, some people need to get a life.

If anyone is familiar with Stone Mountain, GA the NAACP in Atlanta is requesting the carvings of Lee and the others be sandblasted off the mountain. A high school in my area has alwaus been the Rebels. The local NAACP chapter is planning to ask the school to change the name. There is a new "game" in the south where black men run up to houses flying the Confederate Flag and tear them down and steal them. There a lots of rumors about things that are happening that I can't and don't have the time to verify. What I posted is what is being reported by the main stream media - for what that is worth. Roof wanted a race war - he's going to get his wish. What a true disgrace to the 9 lives lost. It is the black sommunity that is stepping up and pushing for the doing away with of anything related to the Confederate Flag. They are pushing fast and furious to erase this part of history. The KKK (without their robes and hoods), the NAACP and another group are all schedule to be at the Statehouse in Columbia, SC this Saturday. Praying this goes well and not the beginning to the actual race war.
Have you read Roofs manifesto...........it seems he started his hate with the Trayvon Martin.......and the reporting white on black crime.....
The event that truly awakened me was the Trayvon Martin case. I kept hearing and seeing his name, and eventually I decided to look him up.
There were pages upon pages of these brutal black on White murders. I was in disbelief. At this moment I realized that something was very wrong. How could the news be blowing up the Trayvon Martin case while hundreds of these black on White murders got ignored?
I have no choice. I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight. I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country. We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet. Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.
I copied and pasted highlights...........but his rants make me wonder if the media might want to take some responsibility.....we all know white on black crime is way publicized than black on white.....and hardly any black on black.....

I have not read his msnifesto. I have heard parts of it and I do agree with you about the media. Please don't take what I am about to say as any type of support or excuise for Roof. I am using this as an example I noticed as to the power of the media. When this tragedy was first being reported the media put out the question why is it when a white person commits a crime they are labeled with mental illness - when a black person does the same they are labeled a thug. After that statement was made I saw no mention of mental illness for Roof. |

So we took our sandrail (with Confederate flag) out for a cruise last night. Forgot we had black neighbors down the road. He literally got in his truck, chased us to our house. Got out and yelled at us, with our young daughter standing there. We tried to talk to him saying its wasn't about recism, its freedom of speech. He went on about how we are disrespectful and disgraceful racists. And how be better not drive past his house again. SMH.
Did you get a word in edgewise? Or just have to listen to his crap?
We tried. Haha. We weren't going to yell back, its not worth the breath. The guy had very obviously been drinking. We attempted to explain how we felt. He just kept yelling. Turned to storm back into his truck and knocked his shin on his drop down hitch. He came out in a rage but literally limped away. Lol. |
