Runs were posted to a FB page. Fallon and Baby Flo had a beautiful run, one of the few who had no trouble with the ground. |

| It was terrifying to watch. Totally unacceptable! Calgary Stampede has been going since 1923. You'd think they would have the ground figured out by now. |

With our weather id guess its too dry. Its on the tv now just at calf roping, i havent seen any barrels yet Some of the comments said it was extremely hard, nothing for the horses to grab hold of. The horses are flying by the time they get to the first, they try to rate but just fly right past it. The second barrel was treacherous. Michelle slowed Slick down a little to keep his feet underneath him. Another comment said Calgary is about the chuck wagon races and the ground is packed so the wagons will slide.
Here is Kassidys' FB post about her fall, classy:
Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn---win, learn, draw All that matters is that you get up. Eagle your awesome ?#flylikeaneagle?

The Chuck wagon horses are not even happy with the ground. They all have to turn hard at the start too to get out and get prime track spots.
Its not just an issue for the barrel horses, though it is so much more easy to see the crap ground in our event.
Calf horses could not stop right, I saw a couple go to stop and drop down on the front and stump because they couldent get into the ground, the one cost the guy his cetch. It will cripple a horse in any event not just barrels. Great bucking stock was not even bucking like they always do, not streaching out and kicking as hardand quiting early.
Im not sure if its been so dry and hot they cant keep moisture in the ground but the rodeos I've watched this summer the ground has been not very good on a whole.
I really hope they fix it up for today. |

Location: North Dakota | I may be ignorant, but I don't understand how it's so hard to get the ground right. I haven't seen a horse slip or fall at my local pro rodeo in the 3 years since I've moved here. They work hard to get it right no matter what the weather and have guys w/ rakes run out between every single run and make sure the ground around the barrels is fair. It doesn't take hardly any extra time. |

| All I can say is that at rodeos, if the girls are still coming and running some people aren't going to be too concerned about the ground. I cringe watching those girls come into the barrels (esp the 1st) so fast. Also Eagle is an amazing horse that took care of himself and Kassidy. The way he handled that slip and her coming off was absolutely amazing! To be at the level and speed he was at and to be so calm and collected about it amazed me. Definitely an even bigger fan now. |

You must not have heard about Thursdays slack then.....they could have at least pumped the water out of the arena....not fun but is definitely the luck of the draw. |
