Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I think Wedgewood is the reputable one that I know about. I'm having great results from the horseprerace version, but the last 2 shots I gave my dog (she's had 3 total) made her cry and then gimp around 3 legged an hour or so. The first time that happened, I thought I had hit a nerve, but she did it again when I gave it in a totally different location. It's not the needle because she doesn't object until I start pushing the meds. The horses haven't acted like it bothered them at all. |

Location: Phoenix | My vet carries The PentAussie brand and charges $250 for the 100mL bottle (I think that's the size--the 10 dose one). I'm not sure if I should buy it from him or if I should do the horseprerace....? |

| I got my Pentosan from Wedgewood. Never had a problem before, but last months dose, the injection site swelled. I warm compressed the area. It got me thinking that I should try to find another source that is not compounded. |

All prntosan gold IS compounded. That's the only way you can make it. I have always used horse pre race and never had a reaction. There was a thread while back that someone had about Wedgwood reaction. They asked for the bottle back and tested it. They said it was fine. |

Location: Bandera, TX | I had mine from a pharmacy up in Washington state they asked for the bottle back... I got a new one from them, the old one I had was fine per their bar code # they said. I've used lots of horse prerace products and the same from the co in Hong kong all fine. |

Location: Michigan | I have been using the gold and platinum versions from horseprerace for a couple years and have noticed on my mare she will sometimes get a small amount of swelling at the injection site, my daughters horse does not.
I changed the injection site to the butt and started pushing it very slowly and that seemed to help.
Even when she did get the swelling it only lasted for a day or so. |

I think Cowgirl Kat said something about that once. She had friends that had horses and the hair turned white or something strange. Hope she sees this. I give it from preracehorse and have no issues so far. On my 3rd bottle from there, but their customer service seems sketchy. I pay with paypal so I can get a refund if they end up not shipping etc. |

Location: Central Texas | I use Pentosan Gold and Pentosan from HorsePreRace and fortunately have never had a reaction on either of my horses. I started paying special attention to this after people posted some had swelling at the injection sites. Pentosan is compounded that is the only way it comes. People have posted about injection site swellings from Pentosan bought from various companies which leads me to believe it's not the product from one particular company but just a particular animal's reaction to the injection of pentsoan. Just my opinion.
edited: Note that alot of horses have similiar injection site swellings from vaccinations as well.

Location: TN | I give IM and the spots don't show up for a few weeks. They last a year or 2 then the hair grows back , I srarted using a longer needle to see if a deeper injection would stop the spotting. I am sure they have a an "alergic" type of reaction but so far its just cosmetic. The Pentosan sure makes them happy. Just wondered if any one else has the same reaction I would post pictures but never can them small enough to post. |
