I have seen a lot of threads that recommend iodine for hoof issues and my farrier does as well. BUT my farrier always mentions how you cant buy the strong iodine anymore at drug stores. I have been buying the Povidone-iodine at the local drug store (http://www.drugstore.com/walgreens-povidone-iodine-10/qxp400397?catid=184304 ) since its the strongest I could find. but then a ran across 'Iodine tincture' on Big Dee's website (http://www.bigdweb.com/Iodine-Pint-7/productinfo/697D/ ) and wondered if that is the stronger stuff my farrier mentioned... Does anyone know which is the strongest iodine solution you can get and where is the best place to buy it? Thanks

Look at the concentration of iodine

The iodine tincture is a combination of iodine and alcohol, for feet, I don't have as good luck with it.

Providone iodine, I believe is a different molecule then iodine

I get 16% iodine from Hawthorne and it works great! it is a little caustic at that concentration, and if I have a cut on my hand it will sting. It will also eat rust off of my wire stretchers and fencing pliers

You can get straight iodine from any wine making store, I just learned this a few months ago.

If you are getting pure iodine, you will need to dilute it down, as it can do a lot of damage.
