| Hey all,
I recently began running a new horse on a new saddle I purchased a few months ago. The mare I am running is a finished barrel mare that runs in the 2D open pretty solid in East Texas. Coming out of the turns (mostly the 2nd barrel) she is so powerful I get thrown forward in my saddle. My friend says its my saddle (I have an original Billy Cook 14 inch) She says a friend of hers had the same problem with her Billy Cook and she advised me to make the switch to a Double J Pozzi Barrel Saddle. Is this a problem that I can fix by simply changing saddles? If yes, do ya'll have any recommendations on more inexpensive options because the Double J Pozzi is really pricey? Thanks all!

| There are lots of options. Reinsmans, Cactus, Martin,(Not Crown C) Corriente, Bob Marshall treeless, Circle Y treeless - Tammy, Jackie, JBN.
You can usually find used ones of these that don't break the bank. Look for something with a higher cantle - 4-5 inch and they usually won't throw you forward as bad in my experience.
It also looks like your saddle doesn't sit down in the back like it should. This indicates the front is too wide. That could also be causing your problems. You could Shim it to prop up the front. You could also attach a back cinch so that the saddle isn't able to pop up in the rear. Since the saddle is positioned downhill anyways, this certainly isn't assisting your issues of being thrown forward. |

Location: Central Texas | I have two Billy Cooks and absolutely love them. Neither have ever thrown me forward. I did however, have a CJ cactus that I had to force myself to come to the conclusion that the seat was to small and this caused me to be thrown forward. Not saying this is your problem but I would definitely check it out. Seats that are to small can definitely throw you forward. |

I also agree here. Looks like the saddle tips foward some and isn't sitting level and no back cinch. Try doing what Nateracer suggested if you are sure the seat size is correct and see what happens. |

| What size seat is this, and what size pants do you wear? You can PM if you want. |

Location: North Dakota | #1 speaking from experience a saddle can make or break you. #2 before I got too excited about getting a new saddle I would try making a run with yours with a back cinch.....it may add some stability for you. #3 the horn is there for a reason push down and think about rolling your hips to the swells. |

| I will try a rear cinch and see if I still have a problem. My friend tied my stirrups so my feet couldn't fly backwards several weeks ago but I'm still having the problem of being thrown forward after taking off from the turn. I am sure the saddle is the right size for me as I wear a size 2-3 jeans and the saddle is a size 14'. |

Seat is probably not the issue then. Shim the front of the saddle a little and try a back cinch and see how it feels. |

AND move your breast collar tugs to the D RING of the saddle and punch more
holes in it to snug it up ... |
