| I have an opportunity to intern with a higher level dressage trainer from Australia.
Before I commit, I just wanted to see how legitimate she was....or I guess "do my homework" so to speak.
I will PM name to those that comment or message me! |

Location: Mountains of VA | Be prepared to WORK..........if you do not have a good seat and a good understanding of how to use your aids to help your horse....you will not be happy. Even without knowing the trainer, I know you will be nitpicked and might even wonder how in the world you have been able to stay on a horse for as long as you have. Be positive, keep an open mind and you should learn a lot. |

| Hence my reason for applying for this position. They want to meet me this weekend. I would be giving up my extra free time to work under this person. So before I sign my life away I want to make sure it is worth my time. I found a few forums with information I didn't like seeing, but don't want to write it off.
I am currently taking dressage lessons, and this person has credentials, just not the level of this person I may intern under.
I am happy to keep an open mind and learn all that I can. I aim to achieve at high levels. I will do what it takes, even if it isn't easy. |

I used to ride with a grand prix rider and her mother and in one year my riding and confidence grew exponentially. And that was after over 10 years of lessons. |

Location: Florida.. | The thing I can say is to make sure whats expected is known.. there are grooms, interns ,working students and they usually do the same things..so without knowing where and what just make sure you know and its clear.. some interns work long hours and never even get on a horse. Ask lots of questions ! and be prepared for hard work and the plans to change of what your expected to do.. you will learn alot if its from a reputable trainer . Id not be so concerned about where she is from for there are many that come over here to train from all over the world and mny upper level riders and trainers.. everywhere . the key is to make sure shes got a good foundation of classical dressage ..do you know who she has worked under, ridden for, followed, coached etc..go watch her and go for a trial period to see if you and her fit well together and work well together... . Id just go enjoy the ride and learning experience.. just make sure its a good trainer in all aspects of that word..... so you dont get bad tools ..to work with in the future..have fun..

THIS. Especially the bit about knowing what exactly will be expected from you AND her. It will potentially save a lot of frustration. |
