| Took my guys to the vet just to get a once over before I started to leg them back up. Vet found a torn suspensory down low in the branch on one of them. He will be out 6-8 months. I was not expecting him to find anything other than sore hocks. He is such a cool horse, when done unsaddling I don't have to halter him, he follows me to get washed off then back to the pasture. 5 years ago he had a high tear and healed beautifully. He is now 18, I am doing PRP again, if he doesn't heal I will retire him :(.

| Picked him up from the vet today, loaded him in the trailer, went back in to get his meds. I hear him stomping in the trailer which he never does. I open it up to look and there is a dang yellow jacket nest right above him on the roof of the trailer. His whole body is covered in hives and welts. Unloaded him, vet gave him a shot of dex and IV banomine, said he was at risk of colic when they are covered in hives like he is. It has been several hours now and he seems to be doing great though, no signs of any distress- still covered in hives though :(. |

Location: Eastern OH but my heart is in WV | You are far from a "bad horse mom!" FAR...FAR...FAR from it. First of all, you are way better than me for getting your horse checked over by the vet before legging him up and because you did that you caught the injury early before making it worst. And sorry about the yellow jackets...it was just nature happening and we can't think of everything. I had a horse covered in hives years ago and he healed quickly with no side effects. |

Bless both of your hearts. But thankful it happened at the vet so they medicate quickly. I don't know how to do pics (for which y'all should probably be thankful!), but 2 weeks ago yesterday we went to barn late afternoon and my mare's eye was swollen totally shut. She tried and couldn't open it; eyelids were like someone had sewn them shut. A wasp or yellow jacket had popped her on the lower lid I guess. It was terrible. Vet said banamine and salt water flush---yeah, that was fun. . . . Next day we had an eyeball again!! I felt horrible for her, but like someone said they build back AS you're tearing the nests down. Wasps and YJ are so very bad here this year. How's your boy today? |

| He is doing great, hives went away in about 36 hours. Now we start the long rehab process for the suspensory. He HATES being stalled, I spend a lot of time hand grazing him. Thanks for asking about my boy! |
