I think the big three are all pretty even, and they are all good trucks. If they weren't, they wouldn't be around. That said, I think the "best" truck is a pretty subjective question. They're all pretty equal with towing capacity and horse power. It really just comes down to what you like.

+1 on what Murphy said. Its just what you like and what kind of dealer you like to work with. I am a Ford guy but I could drive any of the 3 any more.

IMO, don't buy a new one until you have to! Dodge used to be up and above in power and mileage, but now they are all terrible, unless you remove the emissions, which we decided to do and are glad we did. We bought a Chevy for the comfort and re-sale value after having problems with a new dodge and getting 8-9mpg. We have old dodges that put the new trucks to shame even with 200k+ miles on them.

^^^^ This! I agree...our old 7.3 engine ford runs great with 289K miles on it. My friend's new 6.0 broke down with barely 90k, and the engine is just awful for towing. I also agree that the old Dodges were much better, and I was dismayed when my 1994 GMC suburban with the bb 454 engine died and she had to be parted out.

The saying is true: they just don't make them like they used to.

He even said when he gets a new truck he is gonna get a Chevy!!

Our 6.0 and 7.3 tow about the same. The 6.0 has more creature comforts though and it's a nice truck. The 6.0 isn't "new" though... last year of those was 2007. I'm assuming the OP is talking about 2014+ trucks.

I dunno, I am a tried and true Cummins fan. Therefore, I am a Dodge fan. Superior engine IMO. I am pretty happy with my 2014 1 ton Dodge Dually. There is a reason they use this engine at the industrial level. Not to mention Ford is just now putting exhaust breaks in their trucks.

I have a 2012 f250 with a 6.7 turbo diesel...love it...i shopped around a lot and fell in love with this one..I've got 85k miles on it and I still love it....it pulls a 3h with 8 ft sw like a dream...i average 12-15mpg.loaded depending on hills n wind and stuff .. without a trailer in town I get 16 mpg ...22 on hwy... i do a lot of preventive care with mine cause I want to last 300k lol so like anytime I've had service work done I get the oil changed even if it's not due...air filters n fuel filters changed frequently...but knock on wood it's been great !

My dad just bought a 2015 F-250 6.7L. Nice, nice truck. Crew cab. Cab is extremely spacious and roomy. Interior is flawless. Drives like a dream. Aslo, looks darn good on the outside. He had a 2014 Duramax before it. Not as comfortable or roomy. Didn't have a real tornado under the hood either.. Lol. He decided the extra payment was worth it for the truck he has now. I personally prefer the old 7.3L's. That's what I drive and I LOVE it. They were built to work and they do a hell of a job getting stuff done. (Again, that's my opinion.)

In my opinion the fact that they use the Cummins engine worldwide. It is used in semis and has been around for years and will continue to be around. Not to mention you will find Cummins engines in Fords and Chevys.

ETA:I will take an inline motor over a V. They don't have v8s in semis for a reason. 6 in a row is the way to go. :-)

I have heard from several guys that the new GM trucks are TERRIBLE to "get around in" if you aren't on paved or good roads.  Meaning they spend way more time in 4 wheel drive than a Ford or Dodge. (In other words, they get "stuck" when you wouldn't think they should.)   BUT they are also smoother to ride in.  (These are guys that drive these trucks for a living, so all day every day.)
The new Fords are TERRIBLE as far as fuel mileage.  And it doesn't matter if you have a gas or diesel engine, the fuel milage is STILL right at 10mpg  with NO TRAILER.

What is the ground like there?  WOnder if that is the difference.  Here it is VERY,  VERY dry.  As in you end up with dirt the consistancy of flour and it is several inches deep.

It varies with location and season. We have sandy silty stuff that will get really deep and loose when it's dry, like flour, as you said. We have silty clay that gets slicker than owl snot when it's wet. We have buckshot clay that's so soft you bury to your axles (and then gets hard as concrete when it's dry).

I just google each engine and the word "repair" and see what comes up the most often.
One newer ford truck requires the cab to be lifted or removed to replace injectors, one slightly older chevy has aluminum heads that cracks in extreme heat, dodge has sucky transmissions with the 5.9's. So my opinion is that each has their flaws, you just have to pick with what you could afford to repair/live with if it happened to you.

Good news is Dodge is putting Aisin transmissions in their trucks, which is just as good of a transmission as the Allison in Chevy's.

Dodge got a bad wrap for putting transmissions in their dodges with Cummins that were made for gas trucks in the beginning, but the Aisin is considered reliable and long lasting. Dodge made a good move in doing this and I think they began with their 2013 models. I am a huge fan of my 2014. Previously had a 2008. Had 135,000 miles (barely broke in) In that time we spent money on oil changes and filters only. Never even needed to clean the turbo, but I don't have an arena so we haul as much as 5 or 6 days a week.

We just got a 15 F-250 after our 13 Ram 2500 with 36,000 miles kept having death wobble issues. When you are loaded down with kids, dogs, trailer and horses and you have the death wobble going 70 on the Interstate it makes ya pucker a little bit. lol Took it to Dodge many times and all they could tell us was everything was within specs even though we got lots of video of slop in all of the front end suspension. Anywho, got the Ford, miss some features like having a FOB, DEF gauge, bigger diesel tank, bigger DEF tank but gained a few neat things like keypad on the door, locking boxes under the back seat, tailgate step (I use ALOT)....BUT I was shocked when I hooked it up to our trailer, 4 horse 10' SW and the bumper about drug the ground. Never had issues from our Dodge but it rode like a log wagon. Not sure how big of a trailer you have but you may need to look at helper springs or airbags. Congrats on the new truck. Hope we both made the right decision. lol

I saw a 2014 F250 in action yesterday. We hauled 300 squares bales on a trailer up a hill that was just rained on. Pulled it flawlessly. They are pricey, but they do work.

I put helper springs on mine and now I love the way it pulls. It has plenty of power and lots of gas pedal left on the highway. Pretty happy with the mpg so far, not as good as the Ram but not bad. This is highway driving sans trailer and you can see what my cruise is set at. Of course the computer could be wayyyy off. lol

4 horse living quarters with 10 ft. shortwall is a lot of trailer for a 3/4 ton truck. What does your trailer weigh fully loaded?

Eta, just saw you put springs on it. I was thinking dannngggggg LOL

It is alot of trailer for a 3/4 ton, we don't normally go far, have never had 4 horses in it and probably never will, we consider the first stall storage whenever we need to put hay/feed/boots in it. It was still a huge difference compared to our dodge, which had a stock hot rod stance so the trailer just leveled the truck out and made it ride so much nicer. There was no way I'd even attempt to go anywhere until we had the springs installed....I attached a pic for reference.

My SO traded our 2013 F350 in on a 2015 3/4 ton Chevy gas....  I really DISLIKE the new truck.  We pulled my little 3 horse stock trailer with it over the 4th and that thing is gutless...  I have had gas trucks that had the same power to them that a diesel does and this truck is nowhere close.

I would rather pull with our 93 cummins farm truck than that Chevy.  I am currently looking for something for me, it will be older but I think I will stick with another cummins.

We just purchased a GMC Denali Duramax 2500HD 4x4.  We LOVE the truck and the engine has plenty of power.  Now that we are trailer shopping though - I almost wish we had gone with a 3500 DRW instead.  I've done hours of research on trailer weights and all things point to NO for safely hauling the trailer I really want which is a 3H Platinum with a 10' short wall.  I plan on going with a 2H 4 Star and 8' Short wall instead.  But the truck is still plenty easy to drive around town and park in the parking garage at work which was a must.  Unless I have to park somewhere super tight, I prefer driving it to my SUV!

Please tell me that this is not a pic after you put the helper springs on?

im sorry but I think you are an accident waiting to happen. I am sure your truck had enough power to pull the load. And maybe, maybe, enough to stop it. But I would be willing your tires are not rated to handle the load you are pulling. That's what causes blowouts

There are a lot of different opinions floating around on here but here is what I will tell you.

I have had 2 new trucks in the last 14 months. Brand spanking new.

First truck was a 2015 Chevy Duramax 3500 dually. I love Chevys. I've had 2 Dodges and 2 Chevys. The Duramax is a good motor. The Allison is awesome and Chevys ride nice. I have had 0 issues with the 2 Chevys I owned. The one I had for 10 years

I recently traded my 3500 Chevy for a 4500 Dodge. Why? This spring I got a 2015 4 Star. 3 horse with a 13 ft Trail boss LQ. It is HEAVY. Now I used my Chevy and pulled it to OKC and back. She sailed right along at 72 mph and I got 9.2 mpg

Here is where I had my problem. It made my back tires squat. Yes I can put springs or air bags on to level it out but the weight is still there. And most of it sits in front of the axels. 3/4 of the weight of my trailer sits in front of the axels.

You can read numbers and towing capacity and stuff but where the weight sits on your rig and what you tired are rated for I think gets overlooked. Did we go to big? Maybe but I won't be sitting on the side of the road with a blowout
