You will have to wait until next year to know for sure if he is going to be a liver chestnut or not. A foals first shed is often darker than their true color will be. (That said, it wouldn't surprise me if he is darker than your typical "red" horse as an adult.)

Yes but the nice thing is that AQHA doesn't recognize "liver" chestnut. So I can register him as a sorrel or chestnut and still get away with it I believe. I think LSOF is registered as a chestnut so that will most likely what I go with.
