Location: Idaho | So.. there is a huge possibility I will be moving to Oklahoma city area rather soon. I'm not sure where exactly, but I am hoping some of my OK peeps can help me out.
I have been looking for jobs, but of course I can always lean on my horse experience if positions are available. Also what is boarding like out there? Are there any prefered areas? Like prices, hay prices, feed, shoeing, recommended shoers/vets. What kind of amenities are offered? I have never done pasture boarding before so I'm not sure how that works although I would consider it. I have looked up some barns but a lot of them are English barns, and would prefer not to be the only barrel racer in a hunter barn lol Also I know tornadoes are in abundance out there, what do you do with your horses when those hit? I can imagine I would not handle it well! lol
I think that's all my questions for now.. Thanks all who reply!

Location: Oklahoma | Feel free to PM me. We moved to OKC area 2 years ago. Boarding is almost non-existant out here. There are a couple of places I can recommend and plenty I can tell you to stay far away from. Finding property to rent that has enough room for horses is almost impossible too. What type of work are you looking for? |

Location: Oklahoma City OK | I moved to "the city" from Purcell 2 years ago and left the horses there, but I will be happy to provide any information I can (which isn't much)...there are LOTS of good barrel racers and horse people in the area...a few on here and a few that have boarding stables...you can contact the ladies at Tri K Barrel Race for some help. I work for the OK State Fair (Sept. 17-27) and we are having a job fair this coming Saturday, July 25 for several positions with the Fair, if you're interested in part time/seasonal work until you find something permanent....let me know. In any case, welcome and good luck! |

You must go!! Yes Cowboys I believe it was called. I picked up a prospect in OK and we stayed overnight in Purcell and they took us out there. So much fun! |

Location: Adopt a homeless pet - www.petfinder.com! | Bridlewood Stables is a really nice boarding facility off of NE 63rd in OKC, a couple miles east of I-35. They welcome all disciplines. There are some really good vets around. I use Dr. Owen at Equine Medical Associates in Edmond. She is very good and their prices are reasonable. (Although I came here from CA so I think ALL the vets here are reasonable ;-) There is also Oakridge Equine Vets in Guthrie, close to the Lazy E, very nice facility, they did surgery on my gelding's foot several years ago and were fantastic. Feed stores I use are in NE OKC near Remington Park, one is Cross Brand and the other is Red Earth. I have to buy hay from the feed store as I don't have much storage and I'm paying at $10.95 for 2-string bermuda. You can get it cheaper from the growers, the feed store is just more convenient for me. |

| Feel free to message me. I work at a local feed store and Oklahoma City equine clinic. Small square hay 7-10, alfalfa 10-13. I know of a few boarding places. Luckily I just bought a place and don't have to board anymore. What are you looking for boarding wise and how many horses? |

Location: Oklahoma | My reccommendation for boarding in OKC is always Ridgecrest. It is across from the track on I-44/I-35. The lady that owns it is a VERY nice older lady. They have a small indoor and a huge roundpen.

Location: Idaho | Thank you so much for the advice and warm welcomes! ? TwistedK, Roanie and Pocob, will send you a message!
Smmthbr, I would love to go but I am not out there yet! Probably won’t be for another month or so! I’m just trying to get a good plan together.
Calangio, I actually saw Bridlewood farms as I looked up boarding places, looks very nice imo! But anything with green grass and a paddock looks nice to me.. lol We don’t have grass where I am right now. haha Sounds a bit cheaper out there for hay too, we have to scramble for those types of prices where I am at and normally we have to go out of town for it.
Clovergirl, will look it up!
For boarding wise, I currently have just two geldings but I might just sell one and bring the other. I’m not quite sure. I just want someplace drama free and have a place to ride, I used to live in Texas and I loved the indoor arena’s, big round pens, large fields to ride in, it was amazing and so were the people.
For horse work, I’ve been around horses for 25 years. I used to train horses professionally but I really am not looking to do that anymore.. I am a bit broken and the colt starting business is just not for me anymore! Maybe barn manager, assistant barn manager, instructor, exercise rider or even something else that deals with horses and be In the horse industry. I also know how to trim horses (did that for a while too) just been so busy(with school and my other job) , haven’t had time to keep up with it.
