My 10 year old BAY with jet black mane, tail, and forelock is now turning completely grey. In the last month it has gone from jet black to salt and pepper ! Never had a bay horse do this. I've heard of black horses going grey and some sorrel flaxen but never plain bays! I texted the vet just out of curiosity to see what she thought. Lol. He baby sits my colt all the time. Maybe he is aging him. lol
His coat is turning grey, or just his mane and tail?
A girl in our area used to have a jet black horse with a white tail. He sure made you do a double take lol.

I will take pics after work today. Hopefully I can upload them! LOL I went to a barrel race last night and everyone knows my horse. I was showing them and they said it was the most bizarre thing they had seen in a horse...

I do have a bay with a small patch of grey hairs right about where his bridal path is. He's new to me so idk how long it's been there or if it will spread.

That is interesting. My understanding is that any color horse can turn grey....but they have to have at least 1 grey parent. If neither of his parents were grey, then he cannot be. We did have one that turned grey very late in life and I believe she was a bay.
