I'm considering taking in a couple horses for board. It would be pasture board only since I don't have a barn and stalls.

Is it worth the hassle?

What type of insurance do you carry to cover it?

I wouldnt ever do it. Just the chaos and responsibility that goes into it. I cant stand when horses arent taken care of and I board now, lots of people dont care for their horses "in my standards." Having people out at all hours is a pain in the butt. Rarely having privacy. the liability of it.

I wouldnt do it.

We own a boarding barn. I would never tell someone it is a good idea. It is alot of headache when you have multiple boarders. We are actually blessed right now to have 2 outstanding boarders but its been such a headache in the past when we have been completely full.
Pasture boarding might be different though since you really aren't having to do as much work as with stalled horses.

Look into insurance and liabilities in your state.

Also speak to an accountant regarding income taxes

Can't think of a single pro besides the money. Honestly, the only way I would do it is if the owner adopted my feed program, and I was the one that implemented it. I can't handle being around horses begging me because they're hungry, and their owner has this "scientific down to the last leaf" diet. I want horses on free choice grass hay at the very least so they're not pining.

Charge for a round bail and worming, you worm their horses or they provide proof, you watch them. Atleast when you include hay you know when they "forget" to come out for a month and your pasture gets a little low they won't be skinny.

It depends what kind of person you are, and your tolerance levels. I have one boarder and he is leaving in 1 month and will not be replaced.
